Here we are, as promised I continue my journey to discover Trentino - South Tyrol.
Today I will talk about a place that is very close to my heart, because it is the place where we usually stay when we visit Trentino.
During our visit we stayed in a beautiful Hotel, The "Lady Maria ". The staff and the owner are very kind and welcoming people. The hotel is in a very convenient position to reach the places I will talk about in today’s post, also has both a pool and a spa, where you can relax after the excursions.

eccoci qui, come promesso continuo il mio viaggio alla scoperta del Trentino - Alto Adige.
Oggi vi parlerò di un posto che mi sta molto a cuore, perché il luogo dove soggiorniamo solitamente quando visitiamo il Trentino.
Durante la nostra visita abbiamo soggiornato in un bellissimo Hotel, Il “ Lady Maria “. Il personale e il titolare sono persone molto gentili e accoglienti. L’ hotel si trova in una posizione molto comoda per raggiungere i posti di cui vi parlerò nel post di oggi, inoltre possiede sia una piscina sia una spa, dove è possibile rilassarsi dopo le escursioni.
Fondo is a small village in Val di Non, a valley famous for the production of apples. It is located in Trentino Alto Adige, about an hour’s drive from Trento. A few years ago he joined other municipalities to found the Borgo dell'Anaunia, it was decided to merge the municipalities because the characteristic that unites them and that attracts tourists is water, and then the Borgo dell'Anaunia is also called Borgo dell'Acqua. Fund is just the main municipality, then you will also understand why it was chosen.
Fondo è un piccolo paese nella Val di Non, Valle famosissima per la produzione di mele. Si trova in Trentino Alto Adige, a circa un’ora di strada da Trento. Da pochi anni si è messo insieme ad altri comuni per fondare il Borgo dell’Anaunia, si è deciso di fondere i comuni perché la caratteristica che li accomuna e che attira i turisti è l’acqua, e quindi il Borgo dell’Anaunia è anche detto Borgo dell’Acqua. Fondo è proprio il comune principale, poi capirete anche per quale motivo è stato scelto proprio lui.
The municipality of Fondo has many attractions, all related to water. Did you know that you can see a beautiful canyon 300 meters long and 60 meters deep? You can make this beautiful experience thanks to a tour guide, wearing helmets and protection, and see the beauty of stalactites and stalagmites that have been created thanks to erosion. The cost for the excursion is 12 €, and have recently opened night excursions, since the walkways are lit.
We unfortunately could not do the path because children under 5 years old are not allowed and my daughter is still small, but surely as soon as it will be bigger we will do it.
However, we have covered the free part of the Canyon, also called the path of the Ravine, which from the Church of Fondo, in the center of the country, leads to the Emerald Lake.
Il comune di Fondo ha moltissime attrazioni, tutte legate all’acqua. Sapevate che è possibile vedere un bellissimo Canyon lungo 300 mt e profondo 60 mt? si può fare questa bellissima esperienza grazie a una guida turistica, indossando elmetto e protezioni, e vedere la bellezza di stalattiti e stalagmiti che si sono create grazie alle erosioni. Il costo per l’escursione è di 12 €, e da poco hanno aperto anche delle escursioni notturne, visto che le passerelle sono illuminate.
Noi purtroppo non abbiamo potuto fare il percorso perché per i bambini sotto i 5 anni non è consentito e mia figlia è ancora piccola, ma sicuramente appena sarà più grande lo faremo.
Abbiamo però percorso la parte libera del Canyon, anche chiamata percorso del Burrone, che dalla Chiesa di Fondo, nel centro del paese, porta proprio al Lago di Smeraldo.
The Emerald Lake
The Emerald Lake is an artificial lake, named after the color of its waters that are truly green as an emerald. It has a narrow and elongated shape and was created in the late 60’s of the 900. This has also allowed tourists visiting the Canyon to have a quiet place to rest and relax.
The lake is surrounded by a wonderful walkway that allows a wide walk around its waters, is then equipped with many tables and benches to stop for a picnic.
Il Lago di Smeraldo
Il lago di Smeraldo è un lago artificiale, prende il nome dal colore delle sue acque che sono veramente verdi come uno smeraldo. Ha una forma stretta e allungata ed è stato creato a fine anni 60 del 900. Questo ha consentito anche ai turisti che visitano il Canyon di avere un posto tranquillo dove riposarsi e rilassarsi.
Il lago è circondato da una meravigliosa passerella che consente un’ampia passeggiata intorno alle sue acque, è dotato poi di numerosi tavolini e panchine per potersi fermare a fare un pic nic.
HYDROchronometer
The Fondo clock is one of the main reasons why a person should visit this place. It is located in the main square of the small town, and all tourists are attracted to it, this because of its operation!
This watch is called a hydrochronometer, because its operation depends on water. It was made by Giuliano Zanoni, a watchmaker who wanted to replicate a clock seen in Rome that worked the same way.
It is located inside a glass case that allows you to admire the gears and the beauty of its operation thanks to the flowing water.
However, the clock does not work all year, in winter, because of the low temperatures that would cause the freezing of water and consequently the breakdown of the gears, this is turned off.
You can see it from spring to autumn.
IDROCRONOMETRO
L’orologio di Fondo, è uno dei motivi principali per cui una persona dovrebbe visitare questo posto. Si trova nella Piazza principale del piccolo paese, e tutti i turisti ne sono attratti, questo per via del suo funzionamento!
Questo orologio si chiama idrocronometro, proprio perché il suo funzionamento dipende dall’acqua. E’ stato realizzato da Giuliano Zanoni, un orologiaio che volle replicare un orologio visto a Roma che funzionava nello stesso modo.
Si trova all’interno di una custodia di vetro che consente di ammirare gli ingranaggi e la bellezza del suo funzionamento grazie all’acqua che scorre.
L’orologio però non funziona tutto l’anno, in inverno, a causa delle basse temperature che provocherebbero il congelamento dell’acqua e di conseguenza la rottura degli ingranaggi, questo viene spento.
E’ possibile vederlo dalla primavera all’autunno.
