I am coming to the end of my tour of the Five Lands (Cinqueterre) on the Italian Mediterranean coast, a place of surprising beauty and respect for nature and the environment.
I still have two coastal towns to go: Manarola and Riomaggiore.
Today I am talking about the first of them, or the penultimate from north to south, Manarola.
Estoy llegando al final de mi recorrido por las Cinco Tierras (Cinqueterre) en la costa mediterránea italiana, un lugar de sorprendente belleza y respeto por la naturaleza y el medio ambiente.
Me quedan todavía dos pueblos costeros por recorrer: Manarola y Riomaggiore.
Hoy les hablo del primero de ellos, o el penúltimo de norte a sur, Manarola.
Manarola has a strange shape, it is like a tongue of the sea, which sneaks between the hills and mountains (Apennines) that cross Italy from north to south.
Manarola, in fact, since the Middle Ages, has a flourishing tradition of producing extra virgin olive oil and wine produced on the hills entirely on terraces.
The grapes collected in the area are left to dry and are taken to the village with the typical monorails. Manarola wine is called Sciacchetrà and it is a full-bodied wine with a typical amber reflection that is worth trying.
Manarola tiene una forma extraña, es como una lengua del mar, que se cuela entre los cerros y montañas (Apeninos) que atraviesan Italia de norte a sur.
Manarola, de hecho, desde la Edad Media, tiene una floreciente tradición de producción de vino y aceite de oliva virgen extra producido en las colinas enteramente en terrazas.
La uva recogida en la zona se deja secar y se lleva al pueblo con los típicos monorraíles. El vino Manarola se llama Sciacchetrà y es un vino con cuerpo y un reflejo ambarino típico que vale la pena probar.
The famous "Via dell'Amore" was carved into the rock a few meters from the sea in the years 1926-1928 when the railway was doubled; it has recently been restored and requires heavy and continuous maintenance due to landslides and erosive phenomena.
This justifies the cost of the ticket.
From the Riomaggiore station, through a short flight of steps, take the "Via dell'Amore" which winds flat and well paved. From the walk we can admire the entire coast of the Cinque Terre.
La famosa "Via dell'Amore" fue tallada en la roca a pocos metros del mar en los años 1926-1928 cuando se dobló el ferrocarril; Recientemente ha sido restaurado y requiere un mantenimiento pesado y continuo debido a deslizamientos de tierra y fenómenos erosivos. Esto justifica el costo del boleto.
Desde la estación de Riomaggiore, a través de un corto tramo de escaleras, tome la "Via dell'Amore", que serpentea llana y bien pavimentada. Desde el paseo podemos admirar toda la costa de las Cinque Terre.
