Join me from Giudecca to Venice on my Day 1 re-acquaintance with this city

Venice is the capital of the Veneto region in northeastern Italy.

I visited Venice for the first time when I was 12 years old, on a trip that I disowned the whole way, because my mother had decided to visit Europe with the focus on visiting churches and religious sites of Catholicism and 12 year old me had no interest in it, and little understood what they talked about historical data of the places we were going to.

I remember that trip and the first thing I feel is HEAT. Heat because we walked non-stop for 1 month in the middle of July. We stood in endless lines and waited for hours to see works, paintings and sculptures that I don't even remember.

But Venice is one of the places that stayed in my memory.

There was something the guide said that never left my mind: Venice is going to disappear and it has already started to sink.

He said it while we were inside a church that I don't remember which one it was, but I remember that he pointed to the stone of the floor, showing how the unevenness evidenced that catastrophic phrase.

From Venice I also remembered the gondolas, the Murano glass and the Bridge of Sighs. I remember my mom commenting: Of course, here people had a good view before they died, at least they let them see something nice. If it hadn't been for that comment, I wouldn't have remembered the bridge either (great example to understand how seemingly harmless phrases can stay forever in a person's memory since childhood).

If you had told me two months ago that I would return to Venice, I would have doubted it, as it was not a city that appealed to me that much.

However, I have a friend nearby in Brescia, a cousin lives 40 minutes from Venice and I was traveling to Milano, which is just over an hour from Venice.

I will tell you about my trip, but for now I must tell you that in the end, I organized myself a 5 day trip to Italy, 3 of which I stayed in Venice. And how well I did.

I had cloudy days with some moments of drizzle and sunshine, but I still enjoyed it very much.

The people in Venice are friendly, and they have a beautiful affinity with Argentines.

I arrived in Venice at night, and stayed at the Generator on Giudecca, another island.

To get from Giudecca to Venice you need to take a Vaporetto, which is an aqua bus, just as you read it. I found out about it at about 9 pm, when I was arriving by train in Venice and Google Maps was basically suggesting “walking on water” like Christ.

Well the carabinieri told me to take the Vaporetto, for which I paid €10 for just one leg. I was scared because I thought I would melt into Vaporettos, but then I discovered a 48-hour pass that was worth €35 and allowed me to freely use this mode of transportation.

That first night I walked a bit around the Generator, the hostel where I stayed, but it was Sunday and everything was practically closed, so I decided to rest.

The next day Venice greeted me with cold and some rain, but I didn't care, because the energy in the atmosphere was bright and cheerful, and the people were so naturalized by that weather, that they walked around the city as if nothing happened. So I did the best thing a tourist can do: imitate the locals.

I came across the bridge of sighs, where a model I don't know was having a photo shoot in an orange dress. I thought of the wonderful stylist who would be advising her, because the orange with the opaque light blue of Venice looked wonderful.

I saw places that sold masks and then I remembered them, that had also been something that had stayed in my memory after that trip to the capital of Veneto. I was lucky this time, to see the artisans making them, and many shops were glazed and offered the possibility to see the masks in full production.

The play of narrow streets, bridges, canals, gondolas, boats, made me fall in love. The cold weather and rain disappeared after seeing a dynamic city, embracing tourists and offering everything within reach.

In this context, what struck me most was the 24-hour Vaporettos service. The officers were friendly, sought to communicate as much as possible, oriented tourists, and made sure that the water bus service was running smoothly.

The funniest thing I saw was a sign warning of pickpockets. It's not really funny, but in the end it almost was, at least I had not seen a sign like this before.

How are you, dear friend @belug

It's great that you've returned to Venice and had all those memories of your first trip with your parents; I can imagine your face, having to visit churches, museums and all those things at that age.

I hope one day to be able to visit this charming place; it must be terrible to live in a place where you know that at any moment it can disappear

Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you let us know about this experience of your visit

I hope you enjoy it very much

Yes!! Thanks a lot my friend for taking so much attention to my post! Thank you for your comment!!

Boats, rivers, bridges are enough to make you cheerful when traveling. The scenery is very beautiful especially in the support of rainy weather which is a little drizzly but sunny it is very pleasant. Have fun my friend

Thank you! I agree, this weather offers a particular light to create beautiful landscapes.

Thanks a lot for stopping by!

It is another experience when you return to that place you once visited, and Venice is certainly a perfect passage, alleys with lots of history and architecture.
