Hello everyone!!!
I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I'm fine, today we're going to the church I told you about yesterday. The name of this church is St Antuan Catholic Church. The church is located on İstiklâl Street. If you have passed near it, you must have seen it. It has a very interesting structure.
After the museum yesterday, I would like to continue our journey with you with a little walk on İstiklâl Street before coming to the church.
This street is always crowded. I guess I should say that everything attracts your attention because you can take those famous Pinterest photos here. You know, the ones with the old buildings. That's what I tried to do on this walk.
There's also the tram you see above on the gif. I think this is the only line that continues with the old train. It passes right through the heart of İstiklâl and its stops are close to where you are. I used to use this tram sometimes when I wanted to experience nostalgia. We couldn't experience this because of my aunt's disability on the day of the trip, but at least we know where it passes.
This street is very visually satisfying for me. Although I can't say anything about the prices, it is visually very rich. It is as if there is a huge difference between the Istanbul I know and the Istanbul here.
After the famous Çiçek Passage, the place I really want to take you to, St Antuan Catholic Church, welcomes us.
When you arrive in front of the church, it immediately reveals itself with its high stone walls and gothic architecture. It is as if you step out of the crowd of Istiklal and step into a peaceful corner. When you enter the door, the stonework, stained glass windows and the height of the ceiling take you to another world in an instant. The inside of the church is in an effort to keep calm in contrast to the activity outside. I especially talked to the church attendant and learnt that hymns are sung in order to keep the church free from the noise of the people who come to see the church. The purpose of these hymns is to keep the prayers free from the loud, disrespectful people who can be called disrespectful.
This church, dedicated to St Antuan, was built between 1906 and 1912 by the Italian architect Giulio Mongeri. If you look a little carefully, you can see the fine details of gothic architecture. The light filtering through the stained glass windows adds a mystical atmosphere to the interior. When you stand in the centre of the church and look up, the height and workmanship of the ceiling is really impressive.

As for the history of the church, it was actually built on the site of a wooden church built in 1725. It took its present form after a fire. It was also awarded the title of ‘Little Basilica’ by the Vatican in 1932. Even in 2014, Pope Francis visited and prayed here.
Inside the church, the statue of St Antuan and the stained glass windows telling the life of Jesus Christ attract attention. Also, the acoustics of the church are marvellous. The sound of the ongoing rituals I mentioned above is completely unique. Of course, although it is not as good as the Greek Patriarchate of Fener, which I have visited before, it is a great acoustics.
The part of the church that especially caught my attention was the altar. I think you already understand what I mean from the tiny gif above. It is possible to say that someone who does not have any faith will find it aesthetically beautiful, which I obviously did.
After leaving the church, you return to the lively atmosphere of İstiklâl. But this short visit feels like a break from the chaos of the city. If you are ever in İstiklâl Street, you should definitely visit this church. It is really worth seeing with its history and architecture.
See you all later. Take care, stay healthy, with love and remember that;
You are the only one of you.
Herkese merhabaaa!!!
Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Ben iyiyim, bugün sizinle dün bahsettiğim kiliseye gidiyoruz. Bu kilisenin adı St. Antuan Katolik Kilisesi. Kilise, İstiklâl Caddesi'nde bulunuyor. Eğer yakınlarından geçtiyseniz mutlaka görmüşsünüzdür. Oldukça ilgi çekici bir yapısı var.
Sizinle yolculuğumuza, dünkü müzeden sonra, İstiklâl Caddesi'nde olan minik yürüyüşle devam etmek istiyorum kiliseye gelmeden önce.
Bu cadde her zaman kalabalıktır. Her şey dikkatinizi çeker desem yeridir sanırım çünkü o meşhur Pinterest fotoğraflarını burada çekebilirsiniz.

Kiliseden çıktıktan sonra, İstiklâl’in o hareketli havasına geri dönüyorsunuz.
Sonra görüşmek üzere. Kendinize dikkat edin, sağlık ve sevgiyle kalın ve lütfen unutmayın ki;

P.S. If you know English AND Turkish, I do that too... If you see a translation discrepancy that was on purpose. I did think this is as proper as I could do. Because there are many differences between these languages.

THIS CITY 🖤
Thank you so much for showing us this place, as an Italian it's a particular emotion even if I'm an atheist. Indeed, it really gives Italian vibes :)
