I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I'm fine, I'm just a little down, that's all. I think it's a problem that can be solved. I would like to share our penultimate stop with you in order to lift my spirits a little bit. Now I want to finish this series and continue my series from the From All Over Türkiye. I love them more, I can't lie to you.
Today we are going to the Maiden's Tower with you. To tell you the truth, I was quite excited about this place because although I have been living in Istanbul for years, I have not been to the Anatolian side except Kadıköy.
Our business actually started with Hagia Sophia, which we could not get into in the morning. When my cousin thought about the price, he decided that he wanted to go inside. Taking 900 (24.64 USD) or 950 TL (26.01 USD) from everyone, regardless of local or foreign tourists, is a complete theft, treason, and treason comes first. It is nothing else. After buying the ticket, we had to wait until 14.30 because it coincided with the prayer time. So I wanted to use this time by going to Üsküdar. It was logical, right?
We used Marmaray for Üsküdar. I didn't want to walk to the ferry for nothing. We were going to enjoy walking on the beach there anyway.
Üsküdar sahilde bir sürü balıkçı vardı. Bu gördüğünüz oldukça şanslı olanlarından çünkü bazen gördüğümüz oltalar bomboştu, bazılarında ise 5-6 tane balık vardı. Genel olarak Anadolu yakası biraz daha sakin olduğundan olsa gerek ben garipsedim. Huzurlu bir sakinlikten ziyade sanki her an kıyamet kopabilirmiş gibiydi her şey. Bu tarafları sevmememin sebebi bu. Herkes çok kapalı, çok bastırılmış ve her an size saldırmaya hazır gibiler, sözlü olarak tabii ki.
We walked a lot in this part. I guess I should say we walked the whole beach. In the meantime, I wanted to try to take some photos. It's good to try a bit, isn't it? My favourite one is the one you see above. There are a few more ideas that would come to my mind if I were there right now.
As in all our journeys, the seagulls did not leave us alone again, but they are very noisy... I'm old, I can't lift my head anymore. I was happy to reach the Maiden's Tower after all that walking because during this time we gave an interview to a news channel, at least my aunt, and we had a fight with a few useless people who heard this interview and defended the person whose name should not be mentioned. So the Anatolian side is again as you know...
We wanted to go inside the Maiden's Tower, but even though the ferry fee was 85 TL (2.33 USD) for me, it was 950 TL (26.01 USD) for foreign tourists, so we could only look from the outside. I promised myself, I will go there next time.
Maiden's Tower, at last! I would also like to tell you a story while we are here. It's not in the official records, but it's a rumour circulating on the streets of Istanbul, especially among the fishermen. They say that the Maiden's Tower and the Galata Tower were actually two lovers in love for centuries. One in Asia, the other in Europe... On both sides of the Bosphorus, close enough to meet eyes, but so far away that it was impossible for them to meet.
Galata, with its imposing stance, whispered ‘Come!’ to the winds every time it looked at the Maiden's Tower. And the Maiden's Tower would switch on its lights at night, ‘Can you see it?’ The passing ships, seagulls, even the waves would witness their love. It is said that once a stone that broke off from the top of Galata rolled down to the shore and jumped into the water to reach the Maiden's Tower. But it could not withstand the current of the Bosphorus and disappeared. After that day, a crack remained in the body of Galata, and it is still visible.
And then there's this: The breeze blowing between the two towers as the seasons transitioned into spring was actually their whispers. Galata would send floral scents to the Maiden's Tower with the wind blowing from the east, and the Maiden's Tower would convey her tears with the rain clouds coming from the west. But whenever there was a storm, the raging waves of the Bosphorus would shout: ‘Even though you share the same sky, you will never touch the same soil!’
People may have invented this story, but look at Istanbul... The side of Galata facing the Maiden's Tower always seems to be darker, and the Maiden's Tower seems to signal it with its lights that never go out at night. Perhaps the most romantic of the city is the love of these two towers that never started. Because not being reunited is already in the DNA of Istanbul.

Onları daha çok seviyorum ne yalan söyleyeyim.
Bugün sizinle Kız Kulesi'ne gidiyoruz. Ne yalan söyleyeyim oldukça heyecanlıydım bu nokta için çünkü yıllardır İstanbul'da yaşamama rağmen Anadolu yakasına pek geçmem Kadıköy dışında.
İşimiz aslında sabah saatlerinde içine giremediğimiz Ayasofya ile başladı. Kuzenim fiyatı üzerinde iyiyce düşününce içeri girmek istediğine karar verdi. Yerli-yabancı turist fark etmeden herkesten 900 ya da 950 TL alınması tamamen bir hırsızlıktır, hainliktir ki vatan hainliği başta gelir. Başka bir şey değil. Benim bu konuda içim çok dolu sizi de sıkmamayım. Bileti aldıktan sonra namaz saatine denk geldiği için 14.30'a kadar beklemek zorundaydık. Bu yüzden de bu zamanı Üsküdar'a giderek değerlendirmek istedim. Mantıklıydı, değil mi?

Bütün bu yolculuğumuzda olduğu gibi martılar yine bizi yalnız bırakmadı ama çok gürültülüler... Yaşlandım ben, kafam kaldırmıyor artık. Sadece o kadar yürüyüşten sonra Kız Kulesi'ne varabilmiş olmak beni sevindirdi çünkü bu sürede hem bir haber kanalına röportaj verdik, en azından teyzem, hem de bu röportajı duyan ve adı anılmaması gereken kişiyi savunan birkaç gereksizle kavga ettik. Yani Anadolu yakası yine bildiğiniz gibi...
Bir Kız Kulesi'nin içine girmek istedik fakat bana her ne kadar 85 TL feribot ücreti olsa da yabancı turist için 950 TL olduğu için dışarıdan bakmak ile yetinebildik. Kendime söz verdim, bir dahaki sefere gideceğim oraya.
Kız Kulesi, sonunda! Bir de size bir hikâye anlatmak isterim hazır buralara kadar gelmişken. Resmî kayıtlarda yok tabii, ama İstanbul’un sokaklarında, özellikle de balıkçıların dilinde dolaşan bir söylenti bu. Diyorlar ki, Kız Kulesi ile Galata Kulesi aslında yüzyıllardır birbirine âşık iki sevdalıymış. Biri Asya’da, diğeri Avrupa’da… Boğaz’ın iki yakasında, göz göze gelecek kadar yakın, ama kavuşmaları imkânsız kadar uzakmış.
Galata, heybetli duruşuyla Kız Kulesi’ne her bakışında, "Gel!" diye fısıldarmış rüzgârlara. Kız Kulesi ise geceleri ışıklarını yakarmış, "Görebiliyor musun?" diye. Arada geçen gemiler, martılar, hatta dalgalar bile onların aşkına şahitlik edermiş. Derler ki, bir keresinde Galata’nın tepesinden kopan bir taş, yuvarlana yuvarlana sahile kadar gelmiş ve Kız Kulesi’ne ulaşmak için suya atlamış. Ama Boğaz’ın akıntısına dayanamayıp kaybolmuş. O günden sonra Galata’nın gövdesinde bir çatlak kalmış, hâlâ görünürmüş.
Bir de şu var: Mevsimlerden bahara geçerken, iki kule arasında esen meltem, aslında onların fısıltılarıymış. İnsanlar bu hikâyeyi uydurmuş olabilir belki, ama İstanbul’a bak… Galata’nın Kız Kulesi’ne bakan tarafı hep daha kararmış gibi durur, Kız Kulesi de geceleri sönmez ışıklarıyla sanki ona işaret verir. Belki de şehrin en romantiği, bu iki kulenin hiç başlamamış aşkıdır. Çünkü kavuşamamak, İstanbul’un DNA’sında var zaten.
Onların kavuşmak için geçemediği yolu geçerek biz gideceğiz sevdalı oğlanın yanına. Ona birkaç fısıltısını götürdüm Kız Kulesi'nin hemen gözlerinde ışıkları gördüm. Yarını sabırsızlıkla bekliyorum. Yarın görüşürüz. Kendinize dikkat edin, sağlık ve sevgiyle kalın ve lütfen unutmayın ki;

Hopefully, your trip to the Maiden's Tower uplifted your mood on that day. What an exciting background story behind these famous structures. It seems to have a symbolic meaning; they're near to each other yet so far, and their paths don't cross. Just like a story in the human world. There are times when you get so close to having something or meeting someone yet destiny doesn't allow this to happen. Lovely yet there is a touch of sadness to it. Thank you for sharing!
