A Medieval Path / Un sendero Medieval (En-Es)

Hello fellow travelers, today I went for a walk on a very interesting trail. We will pass through a very old Roman road until we reach a village called "Aldeia dos irmaos" which I was researching on the internet and it has a church that was built in the 15th century, this indicates that the village already existed in the medieval era and we see several architectural vestiges of the time, another attractive point of interest of the walk is the landscape that we will enjoy as we advance along the route, we will see beautiful mountains decorating the landscape and several typical plants of Portugal. In conclusion, a complete trail!🏰🧭

Start of the Trail🚩🌳/Inicio del Sendero🏰🧭

We start the trail where there is this sign that clearly specifies that the entire path is marked and that you can't get lost, this walk is a mix of several trails covering a total of approximately 8km, we will pass through several small villages but the one we are interested in is "Aldeia dos Irmaos", I recommend you bring water and snacks because we are not going to pass by any type of store, the nearest supermarket from here should be about 7km away, and come with cold clothes if you come in winter, a hiking stick is not necessary but boots are, the next step is to turn left here and the walk begins.⛰️🌄

The walk welcomes us in a fantastic way as we enter a small forest of approximately one kilometer before reaching the main street whose next stop is the famous Romanesque street, I stopped for a while here because a river runs next to the road, there are many birds that can be heard singing, you really feel a sense of peace!🌄👩🏻‍🦯🌍

Visit to the village of Piedade🚩🌳/Visita aldea da Piedade🏰🧭

The village of "da piedade" is a very small agricultural village, in reality it doesn't have much interesting to see, but there are beautiful and large farms, it is common to see many areas of grape planting, it has a small church and a Roman street that I already showed you and it was the reason why I detoured to pass by here!🏰🌳🏫

Roman road🚩🌳/Camino romano🏰🧭

Roman street👨🏻‍🏫🚩

The street is not the typical Roman road that was built with rocks. Because this area is very busy, the municipal chamber replaced the road with an asphalt path and left signs to learn about the place. I think they did well because with so many cars passing through the area, the road would have been destroyed anyway.🧭📸

We have left the village "da piedade" and now we enter another village called: "Sao lourenco", very similar to the previous one we see many wine and orange plantations, at first glance it seems a place where anyone would retire to enjoy nature and the countryside, in the background there is a group of mountains which we will pass very close to on this walk.🏫🌳🏰

We leave another village again and now we will follow a dirt road which will take us to another beautiful forest, here it is always in front and we go towards the mountain range that is the border with "Aldeia dos Irmaos" our final destination, in this part of the walk I suggest you enjoy nature, it would be ideal in spring when you can see many flowers and insects.🌍🏰

I could say that in this section of my walk there were approximately 4km left to reach the final village, and I think it was the most rustic and complicated part, there were many puddles of water that made my walk impossible. I had to go along the paths so as not to wet my boots or fill them with mud, but it was also the most beautiful part because of the mountain in the background.🏰🌍🌄

Viewpoint of silence🚩🌳/Mirador del silencio🏰🧭

I made a small detour and climbed a hill that I would say was a little less than fifty meters to enjoy this beautiful panoramic view, it is not on gmaps so I literally discovered it hehe🌳🌻

The name of the village "dos irmaos" which translates as village of the brothers, is believed to have been inhabited in the 15th century by a pair of brothers who saw the great resources that the district of "azeitao" has and settled there founding the village later in the 16th century this chapel called "sao sebastao" was built, some of the houses maintain some structures from the end of the 16th century turning the town into a historic area.🌳🌍
