Good afternoon adventurous friends! We are passing through this community again to leave you with a new adventure. Today I decided to travel about 15km south of Lisbon to a historic village called "Azeitão", one of the few old villages in the Setubal area. The village was only officially established in 2013 but was already inhabited in the 18th century. With this tour we will get to know its streets, shops, places of interest, churches, among many other things! I want to emphasize that "Azeitão" is the land of "wine".🌄⛰️
Start of the walk🚩🌄/Inicio de la caminata🌍🧭
First time I do this walk and I enjoyed it to the fullest, we start at the following coordinate: "38.506992, -9.037629", among the things to highlight are these two signs in the photos, one indicates that we are in "la arrabida" a protected forest reserve and the other is a sign that says "aldeia dos irmaos" there we will cross to get to the villages of "Azeitão", it is a walk without demand ideal to do it with the family, I recommend hiking boots and poles, at most you will complete it in 2 hours🦾🌍🌄🍇
Now we will pass through the village "dos irmaos" quite popular in the south area for its old streets and its architecture of the 18th century, you can notice that it is an isolated village and that its main economy is agriculture, I also saw several farms with animal breeding, we will walk through this area for a few kilometers.🌍⛰️
Mysterious forest🚩🌄/Bosque misterioso🌳🧭
And now we are going to go through this forest, which does not appear in gmaps and there is no information about it, so I decided to add it to gmaps with the name "mysterious forest", I think there is a lot of energy between the trees, everything is peaceful, no noise from vehicles, no animals, which seems to isolate you from the world, it seems interesting to come here and meditate! By the way, getting the exit was quite difficult.🐏🌄
beautiful landscape🌻🚩
38.508600, -9.035671 here is the coordinate of the forest, looking a little more closely it is a green area without any historical interest but I saw several bullet casings so I suppose that the local residents come here to hunt, I also saw a fairly old abandoned house with an appearance that must be from the 18th century perhaps even older because it was made of stone.🧭📸
Other villages🚩🌄/Otras aldeas🏰🧭
We left the mysterious forest and entered a small village called "Sao Pedro" which is part of a group of villages in the "Sierra da Arrabida", known for its country estates and wineries. In spring it is quite pretty because there are many flowering plants, and in autumn it is also fun because of the contrast of the trees losing their leaves.🍇🌄
As we begin to enter the village we begin to notice the old things that exist and I am greeted by this fountain called "Oleiras" which was restored in the 19th century, it dates back to the 17th century and was commissioned when a king of Portugal was going to visit the village of "Azeitão", these fountains were common and served to collect water or wash clothes, it was also an interesting way for women to socialize.🍇🌍
"Azeitao" is very large and therefore is a group of villas, this one here is a couple of kilometers from the historic center which is where I am heading and where the path ends, this area is more modern I see many new houses but I came across this beautiful fountain also from the 17th century🧭📸
In total Azeitão is made up of a total of 13 villages, we are visiting one of the first 1760 which is known as "Azeitão old area" and is the main attraction as there are many restaurants, bars, tourist spots and one of the most important wineries.🍇🌻
We are inside the church "Igreja de São Lourenço" which is a tourist destination of the town, a beautiful 16th century church being the oldest in the village, inside we will see a set of quite beautiful tile murals that allude to the rural culture of the town, it has undergone several renovations.⛰️🌻
The most famous wines of Portugal🚩🌄/Los vinos mas famosos de Portugal🏰🧭
We know that Port wines are the most popular, but the center of Lisbon has one of the best brands: Bacalhoa, owned by one of the richest people in the country. You cannot visit Azeitão without booking a tour of the facilities. I did not have time to do so, so I visited it from the outside.🍇
