Floating aimlessly at Lake Como, Italy

Incredibly beautiful. That is the simplest way of putting it. The entirety of the vast lake and the cities built overlooking it. The peaks on every side, the beautiful water, and the cities next to it each with a different personality. It is a beautiful getaway.

After a long drive, I was completely done with planning and the will to make something out of nothing. So that is what I did. Sat on the bench watching the clear sky and the beautiful rocky mountain. People were enjoying the beautiful day, too. Some picnicking, some laying down sunbathing, some playing games.

Rumours started coming up within the group that there was a tour boat. A boat that'd take you around the vast lake. Or maybe it was a boat that'd take you from one corner of the lake to the farthest and back. But what was it exactly? None of us knew.

I wanted to do nothing but enjoy the serenity of this place so I walked along the harbour. Eventually stumbled upon these beautiful boats and also a cabin that said "boat taxi". Was this it? The boat the group was looking for?

Looked like it. But if it indeed was, then we were up for a rude awakening. The boats weren't working today. Coupled with the fact that the booth was closed, it was indeed the fact.
Who cares? I sat on a bench next to a man that I thought was fishing. Except he wasn't. He was only fidgeting with his gear. Now that I think of it, why would he be fishing here?

As the beautiful sunny day started turning into a burning hot day with no activities, I decided pairing up with the group that was hopeful to find a tour boat wasn't a terrible idea.

We waited at the port of call. What were we waiting for? I knew it was a boat. Nothing else. The man pointed at a board with information on it. Did it make sense to any of us who didn't speak the language? Naturally not. So we waited in silence, chasing the tiny shadow from the board that was very deft at eloping us.

Eureka! A boat heading in our direction. I was almost content with just watching the kids do summersaults into the water from the port of call.

The boat however looked very differently from what I had in mind for a tour boat. And it was. Only after getting on the boat and annoying the captain with what seemed his nemesis - a foreign language, I realized and relayed to the group that the tour boat wasn't extremely cheap, but we had paid for a water bus that'd take us to different port of calls to different cities.

It didn't matter. Exploring the double-decker ferry was more interesting. It was very empty and each part of the ferry gave a unique view of the beautiful lake. We headed out on the beautiful lake, bumping to the will of the water, heading in an unknown direction at the mercy of the captain. No aim, no goal. The views made up for it all.

One of the guys pointed at the ticket stub I had in my hand and explained in just actions that we'd have to take this ferry again to go back to where we had boarded. I scoffed at him since he was blocking my view of the beautiful mountain ahead of us.

After a very mediocre attempt of enjoying Lecco, we stopped to grab a bite. It was almost as if unpreparedness caused disappointment. In front of me was the best tartare with no egg on the top I'd ever come across. Delicious, incredibly delicious. But alas, only two bites in and the time slot on the ticket stub would make me weep. We had only a few minutes to make it to the port of call which was within a restaurant to take our ferry back to our destination.

I bid farewell to the beautiful tartare. With much pain and despair in my heart that I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest, we rushed to the boat.

"Is there something wrong?" asked the concerned waiter.
"Oh no, not at all" I replied, "we have a ferry to catch". I only wished he knew how incredibly good the tartare was.

We were back on the same ferry. An hour had passed in Lecco, and a good quarter to half an hour of scenic views of Lake Como ahead of us. The ride was absolutely gorgeous. The serene quiet and incredible views, paired with the rumbling of the engine and the occasional gasps of being impressed.

It looks like you have some great views there and were lucky with the weather. It is a shame you didnt have time to enjoy the food.

The views were incredible. Made up for everything that went south.

A well deserved bit of peace and quiet beside that gorgeous lake!

Very true. Its a very large lake, so every corner has something different to enjoy.

Wow, nice place. What a refreshing and relaxing view, I feel the weather so hot but with that view makes me relaxed and chill vibe.

The views are fantastic. Yes, you're right. It was pretty hot. But feels much different if you're walking around or when on the water.

I've been here. It's great.

Oh wonderful!

This is a serene environment that tourists will love to be. It's amazing.

The entire lake is a popular tourist spot and a lot of tourists

Looking at these photos makes me realize how much more impressive this place actually is !

It is very impressive and there's a lot to see. Photos don't do it justice.

WOW, this is a stunning place, it's certainly on my radar of "must visits", your pics are great and really capture life on the lake. Keep up the great work.

I'd recommend the spring or summer. It's when the lake is the liveliest. You can also take a boat taxi or a ferry then.

I'm generally scared of riding on a boat or like that, but that serene lake would be worth trying, I guess!

I'm sure you'd love it. I hope you'd feel better on a better looking ferry or even a real tour boat.

That would be a dream! Thanks!
