RE: Interesting Rooms At The Făgăraș Citadel

in Worldmappinlast year

One guide in a Dutch castle told us that staircases were a large part of defence strategy. That is why many castles especially towers, all the around the world, usually had staircases with uncomfortably tall stairs, and sometimes of different heights to confuse and slow down enemies/strangers.
The stairs also always went to the right side to hinder weapon bearers as it makes it harder for right handed wielders.

You're right. It's not my style either. But always nice to learn about older times.

That is interesting information and I've never thought of that. When I asked why Dutch stairs are so abnormal I got a different answer, but then again, those buildings were not for defense purposes.

It is nice to learn about older times and it makes us appreciate what we have today, even more.
