Three Waterfalls & A Wedding [Part Four]

in Worldmappin3 months ago (edited)

Hi everyone, back with another epic trip update!

The previous few posts in the series have followed my exploration of Nashville, TN then to San Francisco and now we arrive at Yosemite!

Before getting there, just outside Yosemite is Sequoia National Park which hosts huge Sequoia trees that are over 20ft in diameter! Photos really don't do them justice at all and it is really difficult to capture a sense of scale!
There are a few trails to choose from- each slightly different lengths depending on how much you want to see.

This relic is the result of wild fires in the area, natures way of encouraging new growth. It was quite surreal to see the full extent of the fires- with scorch marks on the ground and the contrast of brown, white and black trunks

The drive from the hotel in Mariposa to the entrance of Yosemite was around a 40 minute drive. There are quite a few carparks dotted around at a few 'hubs' on the bottom of the valley. A free, convenient and frequent hop on/ hop off bus, runs along the entire route of the bottom of the valley to reduce the amount of vehicles driving around.

Vernal Falls (Mist Trail).

Found to the far east of the valley, this trail was beautiful.
Due to part of the bus route being closed, the walk to the start of the trail from the closest bus stop was about 45 minutes through campsites on flat ground.

I thought I was reasonably fit, but trudging up a medium track in heat and humidity really adds up! 50 minutes later and we were at the top.

The last part of the trail was quite steep with unstable surfaces and the spray from the waterfall made some parts slippery (and refreshing!).

The view from the top looking back down the valley.

Glacier Point.

At over 7000 feet on the south east side of the valley, this is a viewpoint like no other. We timed the drive up there to arrive for sunset and it was beautiful up there. Half dome was illuminated by the sun setting across the valley.

The air was still, all I could hear was faint echos of the waterfalls cascading in the valley below.

Yosemite Falls from ground level

Mirror Lake.

Found to the north east of the valley floor, this lake is shallow and a haven for wildlife. The walk was relatively relaxed and short which was a welcome change based on the others we endured beforehand!

Bridal Veil Falls.

Found to the south west of the valley floor, there is little to no walking time as a path leads from the carpark along a boardwalk to the base of the falls. There is a path leading to the top but I was spent by this point!

The famous tunnel view for good measure.

That's all folks! Thank you for following along. It has been an eye opening and refreshing adventure. There was so much to see in such little time but I feel very lucky to have experienced it.

Until the next time!
