I woke up early in the morning on the 31 of December 2023. Only one store was open and I had to buy a few things there. When the quick shopping was done ...
... I drove to Bietza, one of the largest, most attractive beaches of Medulin.
The full moon, high in the sky, was floating between two layers of clouds.
The morning sun was still very low above the eastern horizon.
When I think about what the sunlight created that morning on the beach ...
... magic is the first word that comes to my mind.
The tide was high but it wasn't at its highest so the long, narrow sandbar in the middle of the inlet was still visible.
You can always see some seabirds resting on that sandbar in winter.
Further from the shore ...
... a small fishing boat was driving along the line of the horizon.
In this and the following shot ...
... the boat on the horizon is blurred in the background. The focus is on the buoy closer to the shore.
A few minutes later, a much bigger boat appeared on the horizon.
You can see both fishing boats in this shot.
The small one is great for small-scale fishing in the bay, while the big one hunts the sardines in deeper waters.
Judging by the fairly large flock of seagull followers, the big boat has caught plenty of fish.
Here you can see a small group of seagulls resting on the sandbar. At some point, while I was observing these birds ...
... the big boat entered the scene again ...
... so I followed it for a while ...
... through the lens of my good & versatile Canon PowerShot SX60 HS camera.
In this and the previous photograph, you can see the boat followed by seagulls passing by the islet called finera.
This hooded crow was walking along the beach, only ten or twelve meters from me.
The moon above me ...
... was ready to sink into a layer of clouds.
The clouds looked like a celestial sea with pink waves and foam on its surface.
Here you can take a look at the clouds above the western horizon.
In this photograph, you may notice three seagulls in the sky beneath the moon.
Another thing that you probably already noticed ...
... is that with each new photograph, the moon is closer to the sea of clouds.
I followed it ...
... until it disappeared into the clouds.
Here you can see the clouds and the masts of a few sailing boats moored in the marina.
In this shot, the boat presented earlier in the post is much closer to the shore.
Here you can see the entire islet of Finera.
If you enlarge this photograph by clicking on it, you'll notice a group of white herons on the sandbar.
Here the focus is on the small fishing boat again.
This is a portrait of the beach. More or less the entire deserted beach. You can see the sand. The sea. The absence of people. The beautiful colors in the sky. All the good stuff my hometown has to offer in winter.
Here you can see some small hotels and restaurants situated very close to the sea.
My car was resting in the nearby parking lot.
Relatively big apartment buildings have conquered most of the space behind the beach in the last few decades.
Here I zoomed in on the Christmas decorations on one of those buildings.
Magpies and crows were resting on the tops of nearby trees.
Here I zoomed in on two of those birds.
At some point, I was still focused on the birds up there in the trees, a white van stopped near the entrance to the parking lot and honked the horn three times. My friend Emil was in that vehicle.
We chatted for a while and then he drove away to do some work in the city.
A few minutes later ...
... I was on the beach again.
The sky was still beautiful.
You can see a group of cormorants in this shot.
Here I zoomed in a bit more.
The architectural elements of the simple, wooden beach bar closed until summer looked surprisingly interesting in the colorful morning atmosphere. This scene would be pretty boring in midday light, no matter the weather.
In this minimalist composition, you can see the sandbar. a seagull, and the distant pole that signals the dangerous shallows surrounded by deeper water further in the bay. In the following photograph ...
... another seagull, visible as a small black dot, is flying across the same type of scene.
And that's it. I mean, the post isn't over.
I have a few more photographs to show here, but ...
... but I don't know what else could I say.
So when it comes to the text, that's it.
As always here on Hive ...
... the photographs are my work.
THE END
What incredible landscapes, without a doubt it would be one of the best places to disconnect a little bit from everything that the cities bring. All the pictures are fantastic, including the moon photos, this post doesn't need much text, as the images speak for themselves. Thank you very much for sharing another new place in Medulin, greetings my friend.
Yes, winter in this place can be very rewarding for the soul. 🙂 Have a great day. Glad to see you stopping by.
Honestly, magic is the right word to describe the sunlight and even the beach itself, it gave me some sort of solace. The shots are amazing.
I love the color palette of this post!
😆 Atmospheric conditions sometimes behave in a surprisingly artistic way. 😃
So true!
All are so beautiful pictures, moon , sky , water all are amazing 😍
I can hear the whispers of solitude
In the beach I can see
the winds wild and free
I can see the sun
In a comet's dance
and when the horizon beckons to lonely hearts
the seagulls swim with no care in the world
It is a symphony of melodies
when I see the Moon find its place
I know it is into thick Oblivion
😊
The cover collage caught my eye. Excellent image placement and filters. The full moon photos were my favorites. Have a great day! @borjan
They say that the early bird GOD helps him and obviously he helped you, the photographs are great, I saw the garsas, it was what caught my attention the most, the legs of these animals make them look very elegant.

Glorious winter gold, muted, but not cold ...

I love the way the golden sunlight paints a tranquil picture, glistening across the skies. Magical does not explain it enough and even the seagulls move in a grace so rare.
