In our large-scale car-trip, many surprises awaited us on the way, especially in those places where you definitely do not expect it. So we drove through the mighty dense impassable forests of Slovakia and arrived in the city of Kosice, which at first glance was an ordinary Soviet town with boring houses until we got to the center.
From the first minute of being there my eyes discovered a separate world inside the city a picturesque colorful town that to our surprise is โ Old Town of Kosice. These multi-colored buildings glued to each other were stunned, steeped in retro walls surrounded us from all sides, different and unique patterns, figures in every alley. I imagined that I, like a noble lady in a Bavarian dress with a panama, was walking with an umbrella covering myself from the sun, anticipating the pleasant wishes of a gallant gentleman.
Every lady should at least once find herself in such a town to at least simulate such a situation in semi-reality among skinny jeans and no initiative and noble, noble, manly gestures from modern guys๐คช As soon as we delved into these historic streets, it was as if a wave of time swept over us. Kosice impressed us not only with its architectural beauty, but also with its rich past, which literally radiated from every stone.
It seemed that even the air here was filled with the history of the eras of greatness and glory that were first mentioned in the 13th century, when the city became an important trade and cultural center of Medieval Europe. In 1369, Kosice became the first city in Europe to receive a royal coat of arms, which only emphasized its status and importance.
Every corner of Kosice has its own charm, reflecting the centuries-old greatness and versatility of this city. The past and the present are harmoniously combined here, creating a unique color that easily captivates and inspires.
And what impressed me the most and made me freeze in place is the main symbol of the city - the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth, the largest Gothic church in Slovakia, the construction of which began in 1378, was one of the first Gothic cathedrals in Central Europe.
It was built during a period of great changes in architecture and construction techniques. By then, the Gothic style had already reached its peak in countries such as France and Germany, and Kosice became one of the first cities in the region to adopt these new ideas. The cathedral is built of sandstone, and its architecture was a real engineering achievement for its time.
The unique feature of the cathedral is not only its size, but also its unusual shape - it has a cross-shaped nave, which was not characteristic of many churches of that time in Central Europe. The complex stained glass windows that decorate the windows depict scenes from the Holy Scriptures and saints, in particular, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, to whom the church is dedicated.
This is simply a unique building, which for me is equal to or even surpasses St. Stephen's Cathedral or Notre Dame. You know, this detailed mosaic of multicolored colors in compliance with a certain pattern is simply fascinating, you can't count how much effort was put into creating such a masterpiece.
St. Elizabeth's Cathedral impresses with its majesty but at the same time with the elegance of Gothic beauty, it's strong and steadfast, like the history of this city itself. High spiers, like arrows, pierce the sky and complex patterns on the facade resemble lace carved from stone. We leisurely wandered on, immersed in the unique atmosphere of the city.
Each street gave new impressions, and we felt how Kosice reveals its secrets only to those who are ready to stop and breathe in this special spirit. So in conclusion it's the city that is hard to forget because it leaves a mark on the soul and makes us forget that time matters...
Ps: I want to note that I was pleasantly pleased with the technical changes in the work of the @worldmappin pin website (if there were any), because now everything just flies, as before it was very buggy and hung
