Today we went to the Christmas market in the center of Bucharest to see what is up .
Usually we set pretty low expectations for these events because i feel they never measure up to what i've been used to seeing abroad ..
For comparison i find Vienne to be one of the best Christmas destinations.. due to wonderful markets , great decorations , and wonderful food ..
However, even though my expectations were low due to recency bias i guess, i was pleasantly surprised and i think we're slowly moving in the right direction :) ..
This was actually fun :)
The main decoration was a wooden sculpture of a Christmas tree which had very fine details if you got close enought to appreciate them :) , and provided a nice place to hang around with some sweet boiled wine in your hands .. :)
Also , the actual merchandise that was selling was good quality : both food and decorations ...
I guess tourists could easily find something nice to take home and also enjoy some tasty fast food with a romanian twist :) .. which i think is a good approach .
Ranging from bisquit salami , all kind of dough stuffed wtih jams and turkish deligt , as well as many types of sweet pies .
We also had some more commercial wurst , hot dogs , burger stands etc if you just wanted to go for something classic ... also a good coice in my opinion.
If you came with your kids it is easy to let them ride the carrouselle i guess .. it lights up the place beautifully and provides for a nice distraction .
Although pretty small i must say i really enjoyed this Christmas market edition .. and find it to be leaps and bound over the usual markets we see in Bucharest this time of year.
Will be returning next weekend to buy some goofy hats for our friends for Christmas.. It's a good thing they don't follow me , so they 'll never see it coming ;)
But really , if you're in town this time of year , i really reccomend this place . Just next to the Bucharest University and very close to old town centre .. You can't miss it ... and you shouldn't :) .
