¡Hello, Friends of the #Pinmapple community! Happy start to the week. Here I leave what I could capture of the beautiful nature of my trip to "Puente Boyacá", it was a place that I wanted to know for a long time especially because it is a place where the most important events of this country, Colombia, occurred and finally I could photograph the historical monuments of this place.
We headed to the Tunja terminal to take the bus that would take us to our destination. (This terminal is named after Juana Velasco de Gallo, one of the most recognized heroines of Boyaca in the process of independence. Nicknamed 'the heroine of Toca', in addition to her clothes, she gave the liberator Simón Bolívar her horse, 'El Muchacho', with which he finally triumphed in the Battle of Boyacá).
We arrived at the destination: Altar of the Fatherland
It was satisfying to do this hike around. The sun was being generous and nature that dazzled us with its beauty.
It says:
Monument to the liberator Simon Bolivar in honor of the victory, where the liberator was supported by 5 women representatives of the liberated countries, seated Clio the muse of history and the epic of the four fames with bugles in the wind pointing to the four cardinal points in memory of the good done to humanity.
From this point you could see in a complete way the entire field where the great battle would have occurred and the set of monuments in one place.
It says:
The flame of eternal freedom: This cauldron commemorates freedom and all those who have died in its pursuit from the time of independence to the present day.
Every August 7, in addition to the commemoration of the Battle of Boyacá, the birth of the Colombian National Army is celebrated. As part of the ceremony, a floral offering is made in front of the flame of eternal freedom, accompanied by the trumpet of silence, to honor the fallen for the homeland.
The flame of freedom was first placed in the central area of the arch, which was later removed during the modification of the historic site for the sesquicentennial of independence in 1969.
The Boyacá Bridge is called Puente de Boyacá precisely because of this structure where the last battle that gave Colombia its definitive independence took place. This place is a National Monument and it is said to be the altar of the homeland of all Colombians. This event took place on August 7, 1819 at the crossing of the Teatinos River, near Tunja.
This tree is planted in the same place where the bicentennial tree that witnessed the independence of 6 nations once stood.
Common name: Caucho sabanero
Scientific name: Ficus Soatensis
It says:
Monument to General Francisco de Paula Santander:
The national government presided by Eduardo Santos ordered the construction of this monument by law 210 of 1938 to commemorate the centennial of Santander's death. The sculpture was cast in Hamburg, Germany, and inaugurated on May 11, 1940 on the battlefield of Boyaca, right in the place where the obelisk was previously located, for being the site where General Santander fought as Commander of the Vanguards Division with which he crossed the river, which was then abundant and deep, and could surprise attack the royalist army at the "Puente de Boyaca".
Homage to the battalion of the British legion:
this commemorative plaque pays homage to the battalion of the British legion, which was formed by volunteer soldiers and officers from Scotland, Ireland, England and European immigrants in difficult economic and social conditions who joined the patriot army. Its commander Jaime Rook was in command in the Liberation campaign until the Battle of Pantano de Vargas after which he died, passing the command to Sergeant Major Jhon MacKintosh with 100 soldiers who took part in the Battle of Boyacá.
The so-called "Stone of the British Legion", "Pedro Pascasio's Stone", "Bolivar's Stone".
