Northern Spain is so underrated, its extremely beautiful, with lots of medieval villages and picturesque mountains. its possible to get around a fair amount with public transport. if you visit here, you should definitely take a trip to Girona and onwards to Olot

Volcà Montsacopa
Catalonia region in northern Spain is full of wonders, this 100,000 year old crater is no exception. The volcano is extinct and perfectly safe. There are medieval stone towers that serve as viewpoints to take in the breathtaking views all around the picturesque town of Olot.
to get here you can take a bus from Girona that is served by trains from Barcelona. The express bus takes approx 1 hour and runs a few times a day so make sure to check the schedule. It costs approximately €13.70 return
You will arrive at the bus station and then you will need to walk past the old town and hike up to the volcanic creator.
I arrived late in the afternoon which was perfect for viewing the sunset over the town and behind the mountains. The best spot to view the sunset is by the church, there's also a cafe/ bar there with beautiful views but it was closed the day I visited (maybe because it was a holiday) but make sure to take a flask of water with you just in case.
