Greetings Travelers
Today Im going to take you guys on a tour of York ,Englands walled city.
The video above starts out with us walking passed York Minster cathedral which is currently under going a major restoration project.
As the video opens we see a street artist painting a mural which I believe is inspired by the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
In the square next to York Minster a girl is singing songs of praise.
All around the city are walls dating back to the Medieval period. You can walk on the walls all around the city. They are accessed by these gates which are known as Bars.
This one is called the Bootham Bar.
The statues on the top are legendary historic figures from York's past. It is said that if the city is ever attacked they will throw rocks down at the attackers.
The walls were built mainly in the 13th century of magnesian limestone.
Ok lets come down of the wall and head back into the city...
The next stop on our tour is the Treasurers House...
Heading out of the Treasures House gardens in to the centre of town we pass many of York's unique looking historic houses.
There are also a few bug hotels around the city...I guess its a good places for bugs to come on holiday to visit these luxury bug hotels...
Next stop on our tour is the Shambles Market place.
The buildings and streets in this market place were the inspiration for Daigon alley in the Harry Potter films. Nowadays there are a few Harry Potter themed shops.
Here are a handful of other shots taken around The Shambles Market...
In the Kings Court area of the Shambles there is usually some kind of street performance going on. I got some footage of 2 different jugglers on 2 separate days.
The first guy juggled fire torches on top of a 9 foot unicycle. Here is the video of his performance.
The second guys main trick was to juggle 3 footballs while standing on a giant circus ball. His act was titled "Man with big balls"
Right now lets get to the good stuff.... food!
First up is a delicious Chicken pie with gravy, mash potatoes and mixed veg from the Cross Keys Pub
Next up a very tasty bacon cheeseburger and chips from a burger van in the centre of The Shambles.
Next we have a steak kidney and ale pie from this historic pub in the centre of the Shambles.
I should probably mention I didn't eat all this food in one day...these pictures were taken on 3 separate days... :).
Of all the food I ate in York I enjoyed this wood fired pizza from a pizza van outside the Jorvick centre the most...
The Jorvick centre is an exhibition telling the story of York's Viking heritage. Its just a short walk from the Shambles, look for it on this street with the umbrella's.
Unfortunately due to the recently relaxed Covid regulations the exhibition was fully booked on the day we tried to visit. When we arrived there was a long line of people waiting to get in.
The guy in the white t-shirt in the picture is the owner of the wood fired pizza van...he looks exactly how an Italian Pizza guy should look ...
I figured the owner could use some business so he can buy some new letters for his sign :)...
I decided to go for the peperoni pizza at £8.
They also offer meal deals if you fancy a glass of wine or bottle of beer with your pizza.
If you fancy something sweet they have many tempting cakes on offer.
I manged to get a couple of shots of the wood fired oven, this is the first time in my life I have had wood fired pizza from a van like this...I've never actually seen a wood fired oven before...
It only took a couple of minutes for the pizza guy to put everything together...
Pop it in the oven...
Et Viola! A beautiful wood fired pepperoni pizza
I sat on a bench behind this beautiful church to eat...
Time to try a slice....look at that mozzarella stretching ...mmmmmm :)
Im a gif geek so I had to make a gif of this...

There are a couple of other stalls selling refreshments in this square. Its a nice place to relax and have lunch and just watch life go by.
This area is also where York's famous Ghost tour starts from. York is considered to be one of Europe's most haunted city's, there are many spooky tales to be told...
Right next to the starting area for the ghost tour there is a shop selling all manner of strange items...I thought this skull with water pouring over it would make for a good picture...
Since we are on the topic of spooky sights to see there is the York dungeon which takes visitors on a trip back through York's macabre past..
York Castle is also worth a visit ,unfortunately it was also undergoing renovation when I visited.
Across from York Castle is the Army museum. Its a fairly small museum which can be walked around fairly quickly. Here is a short video tour...
