Hello travelers,
After a long time, Hope you are doing well. I was so busy with my job previous days. Today only I got a short break to talk with you guys. If you don't know me please visit this; https://ecency.com/hive-174578/@chootyd96/introduction-just-want-to-say
So recently I went to a rural village called "Dadagamuwa, Sri lanka". I went to visit the antient temple in the area. When I was walking on the road. Accidently , I met a villager who knows everywhere and every information about the village. He asked me to visit a beautiful lake in the village. It was "Dadagamuwa Lake". This is him telling about the history of the village.
According to him, The lake was built by by a provincial governor called "Sumitta" of Sri Lanka’s first Buddhist king, "Devanampiya Tissa". Previously, the lake was used for fishing, farming and for day today activities of villagers like bathing, drinking and etc.
He blamed and told that, current generation is not getting the full benefits from the lake like past years. The villagers ares ares are only using the lake for farming the paddy fields. I also saw a abundant fishing barge(like a boat). They did't use it and throw away near the lake side.
This is me near the lake.
Then he showed me the paddy field area, which was fed by the lake. Around 100 of families are living and farming in this paddy field.
He invited me to talk with the village officerr who controls the out flow water level of the lake. I couldn't neglect his invitation. So, we went to his house. He was a friendly man and he treated us well. I got a change to take a photo with him. This is me and the Village officer.
Then I went back to the lake. Because, I saw special civil engineering features . I wanted to investigate those hydraulic structures as a civil engineer.
1. Sluice
There are several types of sluice gates. But here I saw a single cylindrical sluice. This is used to regulate the water flow and control the water level of the lake. This is it, It was destroyed by the posters.
2. Spill way
If the lake or reservoir is full during the rainy season. The additional water will go out in spillway. This additional water will be provided for paddy fields for farming. This is the spillway of the lake.
I saw a huge crack going through the culvert. An immediate action should be taken to it. So, I informed relevant officers and hope they solved it. If not it will be a disaster by flooding the low level of the lake side.
3.Dam
This is the main feature which is used to retain water in the lake. Here the road was going on the dam. Huge trees were planted but it was not good for the dam stability.
Those are the main features I saw and it was a small field trip with those supporters. The village was really beautiful and calm. With the fresh air , after siting near the lake side, I forgot all my problems and felt free.
So, this is the post for today and hope you all like it. I tried to give you little bit of technical knowledge as well. Let's meet again with a new post.
Stay happy and healthy.
