My experience as a Girl in Civil Engineering

in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

Hello Guys,
Today I would like to tell my experience as a girl in Civil Engineering industry. I worked as a Civil engineer in Colombo Port City Development Site .The ambitious Colombo Port City Development Project is building on reclaimed land to extend and expand the Sri Lankan city. Creating both business and housing districts, this is one of the most significant projects of its kind in the region. It is a Massive construction project and the largest construction project in Sri Lanka so far . You can get an idea about the project from here https://www.portcitycolombo.lk/

I worked as a Consultant Engineer in the project. Around 500 acers of Sea was filled by sea sand to form the site. Since the land is around 500 acers and The site is almost like a dessert. No trees, no water , even no where to hide from Sunlight and during the rain . As a girl, it was so hard to work in such a site. All the girls think about the skin. Here , Skin was so damaging due to the sunlight. So always we use cream to block the sunlight effect. This is me and my friend taking selfies while inspections. You can see how hard to work in such a site as a girl.

This is the view of the Colombo city from the Site. It's look like "a City view from a dessert".

This is my site office. It's far away from the site. So it's so hard to walk to the site office every time. So we always go by a vehicle.

As I said previously, The land was formed by filling sea sand. So this is how we compacted the land by dropping a huge weight from a Hight. This is called the Dynamic Compaction.

In the site, 5km long Utility tunnel , Portable water reservoirs , Ten bridges, pumping station and sewerage tanks and pipe line networks are constructed . These photos shows the some areas of site, which I got during the inspections.

Project is still ongoing. The final view of the project is modeled in the "Gallery" of the site premises. We visited there. This is the entrance to Gallery.

The finally expected view after the construction of the project is this.

So, Contractor and clients give treats to us every month. This is some dinner outs with them. Here is my girly gang in the site. #Engineers # Landscape_ Architects #QuantitySurveyors

Hi there, great to see more female engineers and working on such an important project for your country. Your parents must be very proud of you.

I notice you have recently joined Hive so perhaps you are not aware of the many communities that you can post from. Each community has it's own niche so you must always check the community rules to make sure your post fits the guidelines. For example, Pinmapple is a travel community and this is not a travel post. You should never post in a community to chase for upvotes. Good content will be picked up by curators if they are posted in the correct community and use some good tags. You post has no tags at all.

If you post about your daily life you can post in the Daily Blog community

Female related post, such as a female engineerer working in make dominated industry would be perfect for Ladies of Hive

I notice in your other post, you did a train journey, train related post can go in the Train Spotting community
https://peakd.com/c/hive-170068/created

And travel, of course you can post in the Pinmapple community. Just make sure you make the focus of your post to fit with the community guidelines so you don't get muted.

Last and not the least, in your other post you have used an image that is not yours. I have left you a comment. Plagiarism is not tolerated on Hive and neither is any form or abuse. Please read the posts here https://peakd.com/@newbies-guide and this post https://peakd.com/hive-174578/@livinguktaiwan/3-things-newbies-should-do-in-their-first-week-on-hive. It will help you in having a smooth Hive journey. Good luck
