Der Name spielt dabei wahrscheinlich auf die hervorragende Qualität des hier angebauten Weines an. Die Zahl 1923 markiert den Neubeginn nach der Reblaus Katastrophe und einer langen Zeit der Brache. | The four-metre-high archway at the end of the Spitzhaus staircase forms the entrance to the "Goldener Wagen" vineyard. | Der Goldene Wagen ist der größte terrassierte Steillagenweinberg im Anbaugebiet. Bis 1600 befanden sich die meisten Rebflächen überwiegend in Flach- oder Hanglage. Das änderte sich erst mit der Einführung des Qualitätsweinbaus durch Martin Aichmann. Durch den sogenannten „württembergischen Anbau“ konnten nun erstmals die Steillagen bewirtschaftet und die besonderen Vorteile dieser Lage genutzt werden. Wesentliche Neuerungen waren die Anlage von Terrassen und Trockenmauern, die Anordnung der Rebstöcke in Zeilen und der sortenreine Anbau. Trotz des geringen Ertrages und des erhöhten Arbeitsaufwandes konnte sich der Steillagenweinbau aufgrund der erheblichen Qualitätssteigerung durchsetzen. Die kurfürstlichen Weinberge in der Lößnitz besaßen schnell eine Vorbildwirkung für den Weinbau im ganzen Elbtal. Heute haben die Steillagen ca. 14% Anteil an der Gesamt-Rebfläche in Sachsen und prägen mit ihrem hohen Anteil an Terrassenmauern auf einzigartige Weise das Landschaftsbild. | The Goldene Wagen is the largest terraced steep-slope vineyard in the growing region. Until 1600, most of the vineyards were predominantly on flat or sloping ground. This only changed with the introduction of quality viticulture by Martin Aichmann. With the so-called "Württemberg cultivation", it was now possible for the first time to cultivate the steep slopes and to use the special advantages of this location. The main innovations were the creation of terraces and dry stone walls, the arrangement of the vines in rows and the single-variety cultivation. Despite the low yield and the increased workload, steep slope viticulture was able to establish itself due to the considerable increase in quality. The electoral vineyards in the Lößnitz soon became a model for viticulture in the entire Elbe valley. Today, the steep slopes account for approx. 14% of the total vineyard area in Saxony and, with their high proportion of terrace walls, shape the landscape in a unique way. |

| 1990 wurde der Name des Weinbergs Goldener Wagen auf die gesamte heutige Einzelweinlage der Gemarkung Oberlößnitz und Wahnsdorf übertragen. Jährlich am letzten Augustwochenende öffnet im Rahmen der „Tage des offenen Weingutes“ auch der Goldenen Wagen seine Pforten. Neben verschiedenen Programmpunkten bieten die Weingüter kleine Weinproben mit ihren jeweiligen Besonderheiten an. | In 1990, the name of the Goldener Wagen vineyard was transferred to the entire single vineyard of the Oberlößnitz and Wahnsdorf districts today. Every year on the last weekend in August, the Goldener Wagen also opens its doors as part of the "Open Vineyard Days". In addition to various programme items, the wineries offer small wine tastings with their respective specialities. |

The white wines are quite good indeed, but they are hard to get outside of the region.
