The symbol of the city of Milan is the Duomo, dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente, and it is the third largest church in the world, an architectural work of extraordinary importance, an excellence of the mastery of the many workers who patiently built the building in the 14th century AD, work that lasted about 30 years! If you have ever visited the city of Milan, you will know that the cathedral is located in Piazza Duomo, a huge space in front of the church entrance, from which you can not help but be petrified by the majesty of the work. Currently the building is surrounded by numerous buildings just below the church but in the past the building was a large landmark that overlooked the wooden houses of the villages, a visible light from anywhere in the city, the faith that guides you every whenever every faithful one gets lost.
This is a bit of the sense of the great church, but in reality the artists of the city and important exponents of the church carefully planned the work, which was a concentrate of art and religion but which also symbolized the power of faith and the church. The Duomo was born on the foundations of a previous cathedral, smaller and even older and after the collapse of the bell tower it was decided to redesign it in gigantic proportions.
The main entrance is staggered due to Covid regulations but after a few minutes of waiting and checks by the security service, I found myself more and more motionless at the beginning of the central nave, huge, gigantic... the feeling of being tiny in front of the great vault and the immense marble columns. Visitors are present in a silent scent of unmistakable organ music, a respectful welcome that intimate the stay and a religious silence during their stay.
After a few steps, my wife and I started strolling along the immense side aisle, admiring the gigantic and precious paintings, the majestic marble sculptures, so accurate and realistic that it impressed me. When I reached the altar, I involuntarily bowed my head, the sacredness of the place is such as to weigh psychologically and almost 'choice. It is possible to access the remains of the ancient cathedral through a rather oppressive spiral staircase, it is necessary to go down meters to see the ancient and millenary stones of the Basilica of Santa Tecla and Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, a place a little narrow but which has a lot of energy , it seems almost the living nucleus on which the Duomo stands.
The ascent to the roof of the Cathedral is certainly the most tiring stretch, consisting of a long spiral staircase that twists almost indefinitely, until it reaches the light of the large veranda. From here it is possible to admire the spiers a few away, about 100 meters high, overlooking a little all the buildings around the Cathedral. The church has many Gothic references including demons and evil creatures that in some way suggest the visitor and at the same time excite him. A really difficult feeling to describe but I hope that with the numerous photos taken, I am able to convey the enormous quantity that the visit to the Milan Cathedral has given me.

I like this mysterious place, how beautifully its build
it is truly a place where the sacredness is perceived on the skin, a place full of demonic symbols and this indicates that man is always tempted by sin. Truly magnificent architecture
How many people gather here? Do you know approx?
Bejmh honestly I don't remember seeing a sign with this information. I think a few hundred people, divided into the various levels can easily enter. The cathedral is really enorm
Good, it will be more better to use the church as well. Otherwise just only building does not mean.
Molto affascinante, peccato che l'unica volta che ci sono andato stessero facendo i lavori ed era coperto 😅
