Hello everyone, I hope you are well.
Today my visit was to Marco de Canaveses, Portugal.
The city of Marco de Canaveses is a Portuguese city located in the Tâmega e Sousa sub-region, belonging to the North region.
Marco de Canaveses and is limited to the north by the municipality of Amarante, to the east by Baião, to the south by Cinfães, to the southwest by Castelo de Paiva and to the west by Penafiel and is surrounded by a diversity of municipalities.
The photographic visit took place at the emblematic Obras do Fidalgo.
It is a Baroque style house with an imposing and decorative facade. It is considered one of the most beautiful and extensive Baroque facades in Portuguese architecture.
This work, consisting almost only of the main facade, is an unfinished work, in ruins and with great exuberance of decorative details. Construction of the Obra do Fidalgo began in 1740 and was financed by António de Vasconcelos de Carvalho e Menezes. With the death of the architect in 1756, residing in Portugal and to whom the work was attributed, the works were interrupted.
As the project was only created in the architect's head and there was no written record, the work was completely stopped and abandoned.
It consists of five walls separated by pilasters.
The facade was in the Baroque style with windows and doors.
The materials used in this type of construction are uncoated granite masonry.
Is considered property of public interest.
I hope you enjoyed this post and a little about the history of one of the most beautiful corners of Portugal.
