Destination: Mendoza AR - Los Penitentes park

in Worldmappin3 months ago (edited)

The big day has arrived!

Welcome, fellow Hivers, it is with great pleasure that I am on vacation from work, and from Hive too.

But a real vacation requires a minimum of effort to record the moments that will last forever.

So this is another post, in a series of posts entitled Destination Mendoza where I will be traveling through Argentina for the second time.

And finally we are at our destination!

Day 4 - August 17

On this day we went to the mountains to see the snow!

After overcoming the various problems with the airline and travel agency, we were finally ready to travel from the city of Mendoza to Los Puquios (snow park) in the region of Punta de Vaca.

I'll leave some notes to help tourists in this post!

Our travel agency issued the vouchers for our family, and we hired transportation to a snow park, as well as all the appropriate clothing.

Traveling to the park

The snow parks in Mendoza are two to three hours away from the city center. This route is done by chartered bus, by the tourism companies. You need to book this transport in advance, it is not possible to hire it on the same day!

Unfortunately our bus broke down and had to be replaced

There are several companies, and quality or safety should be the difference between them. They all leave from practically the same place, and at the same times.

Snow clothing

Anyone who is actually going to play in the snow, ski or sled needs appropriate clothing, which is provided by the stores in the city center in advance. You go to the store, try on the clothes and take them home.

The next day you can go to the bus already dressed (I recommend it), and bring your personal clothes to change into at the park before returning.

There are different qualities between these clothes, we used the basic ones and felt that the thermal insulation of the feet is inferior, so we suggest you wear two socks!

Gloves are a problem once they get wet, so children who dig in the snow will complain in a matter of minutes.

"Enteritos" are semi-waterproof suits for wearing in the snow

The "enteritos" suits are a kind of jumpsuit (BR) and are warm, you can wear a sweatshirt underneath and you won't get cold. Ours had a hood, which I had to take off and put on, as it was too warm!

Adult "Enterito", and sunglasses are mandatory!

Sunglasses are mandatory! In the snow, light is reflected from all sides and without sunglasses you will suffer! It is difficult to see your cell phone, even in maximum lighting!

Food

Everything is expensive in the mountains, and you have no choice. Even hot water is paid for. You can carry your own food in a backpack, and enter the park with it.

Infrastructure is critical, if you expect luxury, I suggest looking at other places. Bariloche perhaps? The layout: a collection of food trucks, tables in an open area (exclusive use of food truck customers).

Equipment

Rentals are available both outside the park and in the surrounding area. It's easy to get everything you need, from clothes to ski equipment to teachers. Don't worry about that if you can afford it.

Sled slide, we rented two units of this model
Photo from MercadoLivre!

Slopes

They are worked with heavy machines, which level the snow and provide a good descent. The classifications are by type of equipment: ski, snowboard and sled.

Exclusive track for sleds / children and beginner adults

The ticket we got gave unlimited access to the sled track, which is suitable for children. We rented two sleds.

Our plan was to stay at the park for four hours. We stayed for two, and we were exhausted!

Playing in the snow is tiring! The children achieved their goals and made a snowman, a snow angel, had a snowball fight and sledded. Everything was perfect!

The highest point I reached, to then slide down on a sled, was in this photo. It is very tiring to climb, the mountain is 2600 meters above sea level, you need to be in good physical condition!

Now it's time to enjoy the return journey and recharge your batteries while traveling back!

Summary of the day:

  • We woke up in Mendoza
  • We slept in Mendoza
  • Tours: Los Penitentes (snow park)

Chegou o grande dia!

Equipamentos

Trineo deslizador, alugamos duas unidades deste modelo
Foto de MercadoLivre!

Pistas

Resumo do dia:

  • Acordamos em Mendoza
  • Dormimos em Mendoza
  • Passeios: Los Penitentes (parque de neve)

That is awesome! Mendoza is such a nice place! Right next to Andes, on the other side you are in Santiago de Chile. I lived down there for several years, what a beautiful place. It looks like your kids had a lot of fun! What an adventure, but up in the mountains everything is more expensive so always best to bring your own stuff. What an awesome trip!

If you ever get the chance try out Punta Arenas in Chile, it's such a beautiful place. Go in in December or January though, winter is way too cold!
