Dover Beach in the Saint Lawrence Gap on the island of Barbados is one of the best beaches we have ever been to. The water was the perfect temperature, it is not crowded and the sand is just perfect. Barbados is a dream destination every beach lover has to see.
Sunsets over the Caribbean sea are to die for. They don't come cheap with a decent partial seaview room costing a few hundred dollars a night. Everything in Barbados is expensive except for the rum. A days worth of basic groceries is almost a hundred dollars and a five minute cab ride is over twenty bucks. Some things are worth paying for and a trip to Barbados is just that.
Beaches are every few hundred meters on the Caribbean side of the island. Barbados is very developed with low rise hotels spreading out inland. The tourists here were mostly wealthy elderly from the UK, Canada and USA. We stood out as this was in January between Christmas and the school breaks.
It was a very relaxing vacation. There isn't much to do on Barbados asides from eat good food and stare at the sea. The island is relatively flat, isolated and is just over 400 square kilometers. There are a couple hundred thousand people living here and they are spread out like a suburb of some American city.
If you like water sports and enjoying the good life, this island is perfect. We have been all over the Caribbean and Barbados seems to have the warmest water, the best sand and it isn't filled with mega resorts or all you can eat and drink buffets meaning the tourists here are classier than the type found on some other islands.
It rained every day we were here, which helps keep the island lush and cool things down. Barbados is isolated in the far South East Caribbean. There is nothing between this island and Africa except for the Atlantic Ocean.
The waves are blocked by a reef and are not as bad on the Caribbean side of the island. People were surfing beyond the reef and families were swimming in the calm, warm waters.
Most people just sat around enjoying their time. Barbados is a vacation spot for people who have made it in life and just want to enjoy their time off.
The locals here are a mixed crowd, the ones who work in the hospitality industry are the nicest people on the planet. The service is excellent and people are genuinely happy. They are proud of their island home and the attitude is as warm as the waters.
As one gets closer to Bridgetown, the Richard Haynes Boardwalk makes the walking easier. The streets here aren't so great and nor are the sidewalks. Cars speed by when the traffic isn't at a halt so walking along the sea is the best way to go.
Here is a view of these beaches from the air. As you can see, the island is flat, there are houses pretty much everywhere along the coast. The sand is white, the waters are turquoise and the land is lush. The most popular crop is sugarcane.
I'll leave you off with this postcard perfect beach. Thank you for reading and have a great week.
All the photos were taken with an iphone 16pro or an s24 and are unfiltered. Please be patient I haven't even looked at the good camera since getting back to the great cold north.

I still can't say I have made it in life, but I would like to enjoy my free time here, which I don't have.😀 This is heaven, literally!😍
After having to leave so soon, can't say I've made it either.
Thank you @ewkaw
