You never know what to expect when heading out on a road trip and as you can see, Flathead Lake was an exceptional place to visit. The calm beauty of a lake just after the summer has ended is always my favourite time to go. We didn't come hear for fishing, we just came for a weekend getaway.
These photos are from The Raven in Woods Bay. Dinner and drinks on the patio with a view like this, who cares what the food was like- to be fair it was fine but paled in comparison to the scenery. Cottagers were even pulling up in boats and the view is West, too bad it was cloudy.
The lake itself is very clean considering it is in the lower 48 and has some farming in the area. It is the remnants of a massive ice age lake called Lake Missoula, which you may have heard of if as it was the source of an 'Ancient Cataclysmic Flood.' It's surrounded by Mountains and there are native tribes in the area adding to the mysticism of the lake.
Famous Montana Rainbow Rocks, also found in Glacier National Park, which was one of the reasons to come down to Montana in the first place. Pictured below is Lake MacDonald, a smaller but still sizable lake just north of Flathead lake. Combine these lakes with mountain rivers and you can understand why Montana is a fisherman's paradise.
We stayed at Mountain Lake Lodge it was a great resort with a nice pool and cozy rooms. There was a real dive casino and bar, A Sip of Montana which we enjoyed right across the street. While you could see views of the lake looking the other way.
There's always deer where ever we go. We walked around the village of cottages in the area to stretch our legs after the long drive. We came to USA for just over 48 hours because I wanted to see about getting winter tires and some blinds which weren't available in Canada.
The Border had one car ahead of us, the customs agent looked and sounded bored out of his mind. This is about as middle of nowhere as it gets.
We saw a Bison Paddock after crossing which was the most excitement until reaching the Going to the Sun Road in the National Park
Montana is a beautiful state. The photo above was taken North of Lake MacDonald and the photo below was probably in the park but could have been somewhere else in the Rocky Mountains.
We get enough spirituality from the all inspiring majestic nature, but for those who prefer billboards advertising a higher power, Gods Ten Commandment Park offers some answers.
When you go to Montana you truly want the full experience. We will be back!

The first photo reminds me of the calm and clear sea in the province where my grandparents lived.
What a beautiful place to live
I myself like going to the trips very much because the biggest benefit is that the human mind is still refreshed, the way we see the water looks more beautiful and the weather It must have been more fun because of it. Mountains and deer both looks so amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Always a pleasure
Thank you
This is no doubt on of the finest mountain range I have ever seen. Would love to visit it one day if I get a chance.
