Sleepless in Seattle

We had the opportunity to spend a few days in Seattle last September. It was our first time in Washington State and we lucked out with the weather. Seattle is known for major league sports and the area is home to corporate giants such as Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon and Costco to name a few.

The city has some very affluent areas and a vibrant downtown. We spent an entire day just randomly exploring the city on foot. Here you can find something for everyone as there are various districts to suit all types.

This is the original Starbucks found in Pike Place Market. There was a big line to get coffee here compared to dozens of other locations in the area, so we just snapped a photo of the logo and moved on with our day.

Seattle is one of the few cities with a Starbucks Reserve location, it had a much more reasonable lineup and is a very fancy version of Starbucks that sells all sorts of expensive coffee and coffee paraphernalia. We bought some cups and resold them at a higher price back home. People are idiots, what else is there to say. The reserve had some fancy roasting machines and vain people were snaping photos of themselves drinking overpriced coffee.

I never knew Seattle was the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix, arguably one of the best electric guitar players ever. He tragically died after a short career from a drug overdose, something else Seattle is famous for. This statue is in a lively night spot of Seattle called Capitol hill, we stayed in this area and enjoyed some of the local nightlife.

The space needle is one of the iconic tourist traps in the city. You can get a package to go here, some of the museums, zoos and other tourist hotspots. We didn't want to spend our day in museums and looking at exhibits so we just chose one spot.

I wrote a post about our visit to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. Seattle also has a pop culture museum, a children's museum, a science centre and many of the other big attractions found in large cities.

There is a monorail connecting the museum district to a mall a mile or so away in downtown Seattle. We couldn't help but take a ride. It's been a long time since I've been on a monorail that wasn't at an airport and this one satisfied that need.

Seattle is the perfect city to go to for a weekend and catch a concert. People also come here to watch sports as they are the only city with all the major league teams in the Pacific Northwest. We came here on a road trip from Calgary for no reason whatsoever except to drive to the Ocean.

Seattle is on the Puget sound and is surrounded by water. It's a starting point of many cruises and adventures all across the Pacific Ocean. I'm sure we will be back as it is definitely worth a layover. Thanks for reading.
