Báguanos: un sitio para admirar (Esp-Eng)

in Worldmappin5 days ago

Báguanos: A place to admire.

Hi Travelers, today I want to share the experiences I have lived when visiting a beautiful community located in the province of Holguín, north of the Cuban East.
For two consecutive years I had the privilege of being invited to participate in the artistic-literary event "between verse and honey" that summons writers and troubadours from all over the country.

The rural landscape of an intense green, dominated by sugarcane plantations, endowed with beauty and magic the environment of that place where everything revolves around sugar production. The geography of the place is dominated by the chimneys of the agroindustrial colossus of Báguanos.
Throughout the cultural space, both writers and musicians, we were able to interact with various community groups. We acted in schools, in the main institutions of the town, in the neighborhood and finally, we had a wonderful exchange with sugarmakers in the sugar mill.
The locals showed us their joy and gratitude to each poem or every song, making us feel comfortable and welcomed, but what really impressed me from this place is their story, the way in which the Baguanenses, managed to maintain the existence and functioning of Its sugar mill.
Well, as one of the country's economic turns, one of its thinking tanks occurred to him to order the dismantling of most mills in the country and among those convicted of disappearing, was that of Báguanos.

The news fell as lead and ash on the locals. No one understood why demolish an effective and profitable industry that was also the largest source of employment and local development. No one was satisfied and although the people always complied with the government's strategies, this time, in Báguanos, a good number of people did not agree and defended the colossus with reasons and value, so that they still remain their sugar mill standing and grinding.
In this conservation action, the local intellectuals had much had to do that not only defend art and culture with their lives but also recognize in each cane, in each grain of sugar that produces its mill, the most genuine product of all their culture.

I want to return to Báguanos, to share my poetry in the shadow of the towers of its sugar mill, to share with their beautiful people who knows a lot about verse and honey.
