The city and its history
This city is known for its historical weight in the formation of identity and national symbols.Also known as "The Second Villa de Cuba", (due to its foundation by Diego Velázquez in 1513,) or "The City of Cars" (by the ancestral tradition in the use of horses and cars thrown by horses, as means oftransport).
Each stone, every monument, every house, every corner of this city has witnessed the many events that make up its history.In Bayamo the foundations of Cuban identity were founded.Here "La Bayamesa" was sung for the first time, Bayamo's anthem, which would later become the national anthem.Here the first flag of the homeland was designed and made.Here, after the lifting of "La Demajagua", its inhabitants decided to burn the city before giving it to the enemy.

La ciudad y su historia
Esta ciudad es conocida por su peso histórico en la formación de la identidad y los símbolos patrios. Conocida además como " la segunda villa de Cuba", (debido a su fundación por Diego Velázquez en 1513, ) o " la ciudad de los coches" ( por la ancestral tradición en el empleo de caballos y coches tirados por caballos, como medios de transporte).
Cada piedra, cada monumento, cada casa, cada rincón de esta ciudad ha sido testigo de los muchos eventos que componen su historia. En Bayamo se fundaron los cimientos de la identidad cubana. Aquí se compuso y se cantó por primera vez " la Bayamesa", el himno de Bayamo, que luego se convertiría en el Himno Nacional. Aquí se diseñó y se confeccionó la primera bandera de la patria. Aquí, después del levantamiento de " La Demajagua", sus moradores decidieron quemar la ciudad antes de rendirla al enemigo.
