Bike that Stress Away: Island of Olango

Hello hivers! During the pandemic, everyone's mobility is impeded, increasing our desire to be fit and healthy. That's why most people in my community find ways to remain active and have fun. Biking is a popular hobby discovered during this time. When the government began putting restrictions and limitations on public transportation, people started finding other ways to get around, and I admit, biking is fun!

Today, I am going to feature an island that has become a favorite biking spot for everyone, Olango Island.

Cebu's Olango Island is a small island that is part of and adjacent to Lapu Lapu City. We used to visit here before the pandemic for biking and swimming on its white-sand beaches, as well to visit some of the tourist spots the Islanders offer.

You can travel there by small boat or ferry for 15 to 20 minutes from the mainland of Lapu-Lapu. Every hour, a boat departs from the mainland.

At Olango port, you can take a trike and ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest bike station, where you can rent a bicycle for 20 pesos (40 cents in USD) per hour if you leave an identification card to guarantee that you would return the bicycle. You can also bring your own bike if you don't want to rent one; the ferry can carry them for a fee.

When biking on the Island, there are many scenic spots where you can stop for pictures.

One of the most famous is the entrance to Maribagini, a privately owned land. The trees covering the road give the impression of a mini forest. The road is also the one you will take if you want to visit their wild and fish sanctuary.

Most of the road is still a part of the shoreline, so there is a spot where you can see the open beach while biking, feel the cold ocean breeze, and smell the salty sea air.

pic_6.jpg

There are also people who want to spend the night on the island, so the government set up some camping sites where you can put up a tent and stay the night.

The weather on the Island with its flora makes it perfect for this activity and during the summertime, the leaves of the trees glow when it was hit by sunshine making them look like gold/yellow leaves.

Furthermore, because there’s no traffic and the motor vehicle number is limited, you could enjoy biking at the seashore more in peace, with fewer worries that you will be hit by a running car.

And after long and tiring biking, you could always stop by at some go-to mini restaurant that the locals set up where you could order and enjoy fresh seafood, refreshing halo halo, and coconut juice.

Do you also enjoy biking? Do you think you would like doing it here? Let me hear your thoughts in the comment section, and thank you for reading my blog today. I do hope you like this feature. See you on the next blog. Much Love!

Thank you soo much @hivebuzz ❤️

You're welcome @demzmay 😊🌹 Have a nice day!

Wonderful place! The climate on the island, combined with the island's flora, makes it an excellent location for this activity. When the leaves of the trees are exposed to sunlight, they emit a golden glow, giving them the appearance of gold leaves.

Here we don't have autum season, but when I looked at those pictures it makes feel that I experienced it. Glad that you like it too 😊

@demzmay bring me there please. I haven't experienced it yet.

Before it's just a boat ride away from our place, now it's a bit far na Jack but can take you there of course 😊

My definition of a beautiful day!

Glad you like it @erikathedrama ☺️
