Zoutelande – My Little Piece of Paradise

Zoutelande – the name alone feels like a gentle sea breeze brushing through the leftovers of my hair. 😜

This little coastal village in the Dutch province of Zeeland quickly became one of my favorite spots. This is not my first trip to zoutelande, but I still remember the moment I arrived the first time.

I was greeted by miles of golden sand and these majestic dunes that seemed to invite me to climb up and take in the view.

The village itself felt like a warm embrace, with its cozy cafes and an atmosphere that’s refreshingly down-to-earth. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you can finally breathe

Hey Hive Family
follow me to the dutch coastline
and let us travel the world again

The Country

Ah, the Netherlands – I never get tired of traveling here. Zeeland, in particular, has a charm all its own. While most people think of Holland as the land of bikes and tulips, there’s so much more to it. Here in Zeeland, it’s all about the sea, the wind, and that unmistakable Dutch practicality mixed with a love for life’s simple pleasures.

I couldn’t resist indulging in some kibbeling (fried fish bites) by the harbor – though I had to guard it jealously from the seagulls. Even better, this food goes well with a good beer. The Dutch really know how to make you feel at home, whether it’s with their hearty food or their friendly “goedemorgen” as you pass by.

The Beach and the Sea

The beach in Zoutelande stole my heart. It’s one of the few south-facing beaches in the Netherlands, which means it’s blessed with sunshine all day (when the weather cooperates, of course).

I spent hours walking along the shoreline, the soft sand beneath my feet and the rhythmic sound of waves in my ears. The North Sea was surprisingly inviting – refreshing and cool, but not icy enough to scare me off.

I sat for a while on the dunes, watching the waves roll in and letting the sea breeze clear my mind. And the sunsets? They were unreal, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. I may or may not have taken about a hundred photos.

The Beach Bars

The beach bars in Zoutelande are an experience in themselves. Picture this: you’re sitting on a wooden terrace, toes still sandy from your walk, with a cold drink in hand while the sun dips low over the water.

My personal favorite was Strandpaviljoen De Zeeuwse Riviera a laid-back spot with great views, chilled vibes, and a menu full of local treats. Whether you’re in the mood for a crisp beer, a fresh seafood platter, or just a classic bitterbal snack, these bars deliver.

And the best part? Many of them stay open late, so you can enjoy a glass of wine under the stars while the waves provide the perfect soundtrack. It’s casual, unpretentious, and exactly what you need after a day in the sun.

I prefer to visit a few of them with a fair amount of walking the beach in between. The Botanist is another cool bar along the beach line and worth a visit.

5. The Unique Charm

What makes Zoutelande truly stand out for me is how effortlessly it combines simplicity with beauty. The south-facing beaches are a game changer – I actually felt like I was on a Mediterranean escape, minus the palm trees. The dune trails were a personal highlight.

Hiking up those sandy paths was worth every step, especially when I reached the top and saw the sea stretching out endlessly. And if you’re on a bike, prepare for a ride you won’t forget. With the wind at your back, you’ll feel unstoppable; against it, well… let’s just say I earned my kibbeling & beer that day.

6. My Takeaway

Zoutelande is one of those places that stays with you. It’s peaceful yet vibrant, simple yet stunning. For me, it was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether I was wandering along the beach, enjoying a drink at a local café, or simply sitting in the dunes watching the world go by, I felt completely at ease. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Zoutelande isn’t just a destination – it’s an experience. And yes, I couldn’t help but hum “Als de zon schijnt in Zoutelande” as I walked back to my car. Cheers to the little moments that make travel so unforgettable.

You are very welcome @detlev! it was well deserved. ☀️
Keep up the great work 💪

Zeeland… yes, it is stunning. Have visited a few times. The noordkust has so much to offer. The peaceful beaches and dunes.
Dutchyland is a small country, but it has a lot to show 😎 (I am Dutch btw 😉)
Great captures of the feel and mood.
Have a fantastic new week 😁

You are Dutch! Cool - I will invite you for the next #HiveMeetupAachen or in your words #HiveMeetupAken ;-)

Yep, even lived in Germany. The first language I learned actually. 😉 my mom is from there.

Oh that's a shame. Would have been cool to attend.
I don't live in the Netherlands anymore. Moved out 10 years ago and right now, I have moved many times after that… also countries. I have lived in 5 countries since then.
Sadly Aachen is too far for me. I am up north and it would take me 30 + hours to drive down hahaha 🤣
If I am in the neighbourhood one day, I let you know. Would be cool to talk some German again, been a while.

Oh 😮 30h up north is far far up north

You are always welcome for a chat and - if you like - a good Belgium beer.

Yep, very snowy here since 1 November hahaha 🤣

Thank you, sounds great.
