A Visit to the Carlos Thays Botanical Garden in Spring.

IMG_20241129_133447741_HDR.jpg

If there is something that characterizes the city of Buenos Aires are the green spaces, I like the idea that governments have very present this type of natural works that allow the conservation of plants, contact with nature, which is mandatory for human beings, the creation of places that generate a contrast between urban and nature, spaces to enjoy, for recreation and of course for internal healing in a sense.

It has been 126 years since the inauguration of the Carlos Thays Botanical Garden (1898) and 28 years since it was declared a national historic monument (1996). A garden designed by the landscaper Carlos Thays with a modernist architectural style, with an area of over 77,000m² and located in the neighborhood of Palermo on Santa Fe Avenue, bordering the old Buenos Aires Zoo, now Ecoparque and the extensive Tres de Febrero Park.

Today I invite you to enjoy a tour through the different areas of the park and garden and to enjoy some pictures in this spring season.

The garden is home to more than 1,500 species of plants, many works of art related to sculpture and numerous trails that allow us to enjoy the biodiversity of this great place and one of the natural lungs of the city of Buenos Aires. It is said that certain areas were designed with strong influence of the Versailles garden and the Roman garden.

Besides appreciating all this, we can admire the large building at the entrance, this being the administration of the garden and at the time the residence of the same landscaper Carlos Thays.

There are 5 greenhouses also with species that require special environmental conditions such as succulents and cactus.

These are very touristic places and very visited in the warm seasons, summer and spring mainly, people look for natural environments to spend the day, to know, to breathe another type of air very different from the city itself and to connect with nature. Lately I am with the theme of grounding and everything is connected to health and individual wellness.

Luckily we have these places in different neighborhoods of the city where we can practice it and at the same time learn something new and interesting.

At that moment I only took my camera with a single lens, the 18-55mm kit lens and it was more than enough to get these shots.

In every corner or zone of the garden you can find sculptural art of different authors and I took the decision to take some photos of these and edit them in black and white. Firstly because I find them more interesting in that style and secondly because I intend to vary the article a little in terms of visuals and photography.

Here I share with you 9 photos of 9 sculptures, my intention was to take the photos in vertical format but there were much more than 9 sculptures in the garden.

A magical place preserved and maintained by the secretary of environment of the city government that promotes both education and guided tours to different educational institutions at the primary level. Many times I have seen school excursions in the botanical garden, something that I think is wonderful for the new generations.

There have also been multiple events such as the Secret Garden, where they played with different lighting schemes and projections on the plants and areas of the garden, a very visual and attractive experience.

This was my tour through this emblematic and touristic place of Palermo in Buenos Aires, thanks for coming here. A hug to all :)

Thanks a lot @arieswilly friend! Glad you liked them :)

I think I saw a YouTube video that this place is used a lot to rent to people who are getting married, is it true?

That's right my friend, they do weddings in this garden and also in the Palermo rose garden :)
