Would love to explore Switzerland this way someday. Being able to stop, sit back and enjoy it, not the kind where we breeze through the main highway (I had the word autobahn in my head).
"For me, I went to the Rhine Falls with pretty low expectations and treated them as a brief stopover, as something to see on our way to our primary destination for the day."
That's the best part about traveling, not having high expectations and then the destination surprises you.
We actually do travel the highways quite a bit to get to our destinations. We generally only stay in one place for a night or two. We try to limit travel between stops as much as possible but we also like to see a lot, so there always a balance there. We have been to Switzerland before so this trip was about seeing the parts that we haven't already seen, with one exception. Unfortunately the stops were further apart then I would normally like meaning we had a bit more travel time this trip than normal. But the weather was crap for the majority of the trip as well so it didn't matter a while lot in that regard.
The first and last time we went to Switzerland, we only saw the signs on the road like "oh it's Lucerne,..oh it's Geneva" except for one night we stayed in a hotel far from the main attractions in Zurich. The highlight of our trip was hunting for the cheapest restaurant we could find 😂...but didn't have time to see any of the sights at all.
Yep, the weather is a major factor too.
I think that "cheap" and "Switzerland " are two words that are incompatible with each other. I don't think that there is anything cheap in Switzerland lol.
Haha exactly 😂
