After admiring the incredible work of Juan Felix Sanchez, building the beautiful stone chapel in San Rafael de Mucuchies, we arrived to one of the places I was longing to visit: the majestic Laguna de Mucubaji.
Hola amigos viajeros, espero estén muy felices disfrutando de las maravillas de la vida y si se encuentran de viaje mucho mejor. Hoy estoy muy feliz de seguir compartiendo mi experiencia visitando el páramo merideño.
Después de admirar el increíble trabajo de Juan Félix Sánchez, al construir la hermosa capilla de piedra en San Rafael de Mucuchíes, llegamos a uno de los sitios que tanto anhelaba visitar: la majestuosa Laguna de Mucubají.

In Merida, we can find many lagoons, most of them difficult to access, but undoubtedly the Mucubaji Lagoon is one of the most beautiful and exuberant. It is located at more than 3600 meters above sea level, very close to the trans-Andean highway, between the beautiful town of Apartaderos and Santo Domingo.
We arrived at the lagoon around 3 pm, and since the bus turned off the road and began the route to the lagoon less than 1 km from it, I began to get excited. You notice how the weather changes quickly and the cold is felt with intensity. The view I had from the bus window was simply privileged. One of the things I enjoy the most are the frailejones, the main vegetation found in the paramos, responsible for balancing the ecosystem. When they are in bloom, they dress the landscape with a beautiful yellow.
En Mérida, podemos encontrar muchas lagunas, la mayoría de difícil acceso, pero sin duda la Laguna de Mucubají es una de las más preciosas y exuberantes. Queda a más de 3600 msnm, muy cerca de la carretera trasandina, entre la bella población de Apartaderos y Santo Domingo.
Llegamos a la laguna cerca de las 3 de la tarde, y desde que el bus se desvió de la carretera y comenzó la ruta hacia la laguna a menos de 1 km de ella, comencé a emocionarme. Notas cómo el clima cambia rápidamente y el frío se hace sentir con intensidad. La vista que tenía desde la ventanilla del autobús era simplemente privilegiada. Una de las cosas que más disfruto son los frailejones, la principal vegetación que encontramos en los páramos, responsables de equilibrar el ecosistema. Cuando están floreados, visten el paisaje con un amarillo hermoso.
It was raining a little, but it was still clear and we could fully appreciate these beautiful landscapes, but nature always impresses us with its magic full of mysteries, and while the bus parked the fog completely covered the lagoon, as if it wanted to hide and not be seen by us.
Llovía un poco, pero aún estaba despejado y se podía apreciar por completo estos bellos paisajes, pero la naturaleza, siempre nos impresiona con su magia llena de misterios, y mientras el bus se estacionaba la neblina cubrió totalmente la laguna, como si quisiera ocultarse y no ser vista por nosotros.
In spite of the thick fog, being in this place, feeling the imposing climate of the paramo, makes this experience so incredible that it is very difficult to describe it because words are simply too short.
We decided to walk around the lagoon and, as we approached it, we managed to observe some birds and ducks. The tour guides also told us that it is home to a large population of trout, one of the main types of fish found in the Andean region.
A pesar de esta espesa niebla, estar en ese lugar, sintiendo el clima tan imponente del páramo, hace que esta experiencia, sea tan increíble, que es muy difícil describirla porque las palabras simplemente quedan cortas.
Decidimos caminar alrededor de la laguna y, mientras nos acercábamos a ella, logramos observar algunas aves y patos. También los guías turísticos nos contaron que en ella habitan una gran población de truchas, uno de los principales tipos de peces que encuentran en la región andina.
It is relaxing to walk around the lagoon, you feel a lot of silence, but this is interrupted by the chirping of birds and nature's own noises. Taking a breath, stopping and simply admiring this natural spectacle for a few minutes, recharges you with peace and a beautiful positive energy.
Es relajante caminar alrededor de la laguna, se siente mucho silencio, pero este es interrumpido por el trinar de las aves y los propios ruidos de la naturaleza. Tomar un respiro, detenerte y simplemente admirar este espectáculo natural por unos minutos, te recarga de paz y una energía positiva muy bonita.
My family and I did not want to go too far and after a while we headed to the viewpoint, a wooden bridge in the center of the lagoon, ideal for taking pictures and appreciate from the best angles this beautiful glacial lagoon.
Mi familia y yo, no quisimos alejarnos demasiado y después de un buen rato nos dirigimos al mirador, un puente de madera en el centro de la laguna, ideal para tomar fotos y apreciar desde el mejor de los ángulos esta bella laguna de origen glacial.
As I said at the beginning, nature is very mysterious and at times the fog would rise to show off the beauty of its landscapes. But soon the mist would completely envelop us again.
Como dije al principio, la naturaleza, es muy misteriosa y por ratos la neblina se levantaba para presumir la belleza de sus paisajes. Pero rápidamente la niebla nos arropaba por completo de nuevo.
Here you can find restaurants, bathroom service and also have a warm place to eat for free, the food you bring, but if you prefer to eat their food, they offer a range of options of typical dishes of Andean cuisine and of course a good cup of hot chocolate.
Aquí puedes encontrar restaurantes, servicio de baño y además tienes un sitio cálido para comer de manera gratuita, la comida que lleves, pero si prefieres consumir su comida, ellos te ofrecen un abanico de opciones de platos típicos de la gastronomía andina y por supuesto una buena taza de chocolate caliente.
In the Sierra Nevada park, not only can you admire this beautiful lagoon, but it is also the beginning of the road to other nearby lagoons. You can rent horses or go walking if you prefer. In this park you can find the Laguna negra, the Laguna de la Victoria, the Laguna de los patos and others whose name I do not remember.
After lunch, it was time to get back on our way to our next destination and the lagoon said goodbye to us in a generous way. The mist was completely gone and it was completely clear, so that we remember it like this, so beautiful and majestic that transmits a lot of harmony.
En el parque la Sierra Nevada, no solo puedes admirar esta bella laguna, sino también es el inicio del camino a otras lagunas cercanas. Puedes alquilar caballos o ir caminando si lo prefieres. En este parque se encuentran la Laguna negra, la laguna de la Victoria, la laguna de los patos y otras cuyo nombre no recuerdo.
Después de comer, era momento de retomar nuestro camino a nuestro próximo destino y la laguna se despidió de nosotros de una manera generosa. La neblina se fue por completo y quedó completamente despejada, para que la recordemos así, tan bella y majestuosa que transmite mucha armonía.
I would like to return and visit the other lagoons, but I would like to do it on a sunny day, to enjoy the blue that sometimes gives us.
If you dare to enjoy these Andean landscapes, this is an obligatory stop that you cannot miss.
Quisiera volver y visitar las demás lagunas, pero quisiera hacerlo en un día soleado, para disfrutar del azul que en ocasiones nos regala.

That lagoon is part of paradise, according to what an aunt who got to know it many years ago told me.
Each photo seems to be a painted picture, so its beauty is noticeable in each portrait, despite the fog that sometimes comes out.
Esa laguna es parte del paraiso según me decía una tía que la llegó a conocer hace muchos años ya.
Cada foto pareciera ser un cuadro pintado, por lo que su belleza se nota en cada retrato, a pesar de la niebla que a veces sale.
