Ado-Awaiye is a town within Oyo State Nigeria and it's one of a conglomerate of towns having some of the 'rockiest' landscapes within Oyo State.
The towns in Oyo State feature more of a tropical rainforest type of geography than a rocky type.
While Oyo State is not a very elevated landscape, there are a few towns that have significant rocks and mountains.
Sometime ago I talked about the Oke Ogun conglomerate of towns and Iseyin and showed some of the arable lands and rocky plains of Iseyin on one of my trips there.
This time around, my work took me to Ado Awaiye on an inspection visit for health facilities around the area.
I decided to do an extended tour just looking around some of the hills and plains in the area.
Brown roofs are not only peculiar to Ibadan. Ado-Awaiye also has quite a number of brown roofs
Ado-Awaiye is about 30 minutes away from Iseyin and it is one of Oyo State's tourism hubs majorly for the abundant hills and rocks.
People literally live and work along these rocky hills and mountains
It is also home to one of the only 2 suspended lakes in the world. There are actually a number of lakes on the mountains, but the "Iyake" Lake is the highlight of the lakes. I hope to go back there someday soon to see it for myself and make a blog/vlog on it.
I couldn't do a proper tour and visit the tourist spots, but from the distance I could appreciate the lush land and elevated landscapes in the distance.
The rocks and mountains have some historical significance and to them and many are still unexplored.
A good number of these rocks and mountains are blessed with rich vegetation scattered all over them, even at some of their peaks
It is also believed that there are caves within some of these rock clusters, but for cultural and traditional reasons, a lot of these places are "out-of-bounds" as there are stories of doom associated with them.
The majority of these rocks and mountains have signs of erosion and some sort of carving from environmental weathering.
Whichever way, these places remain largely unexplored. Perhaps there could be some mineral resource hidden in some of these places.
There are however signs of exploration by locals in some of these locations.
But until some foreign figures come around to discover and access these lands, many will likely remain untouched. It's sad but unfortunately the case for most places in Nigeria.
Hikeable parts of the rocky/mountain ranges
Rarely hiked portion of the rocky/mountain ranges in the distance
I hope you enjoyed the views.
Perhaps I'll be able to do a better planned and more detailed tour sometime soon and show you the "7 wonders of Ado Awaiye Town".

Hiking there must be great, but it also must be sooooo hot! You have no sun protection on these bare hills. But they are pretty 🙂
Thank you for sharing!
Yeah... No sun protection at all. There are a few tracks with tree shades.
And most of the sites are rarely hiked. The few ones have limited routes.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
The one thing I appreciate about the scenery of the South West, is just how beautiful the rocks look.
These are fantastic photos!
Yes... A lot to say about how the rocks look. A good number of them are however a little inaccessible without an experienced guide.
