It was time to head back to the seldom visited island of Lana'i. This time I had four guests with me who were pretty experienced mountain bikers. After a quick talk with the bike guides, we decided to try a trail that we had never done before. It turned out to be a pretty wild downhill, through some of the coolest terrain, on the north side of Lana'i. We could see the ocean beyond, and other Hawaiian islands off in the distance. The trade winds kept us cool, although it was still hard work trying to keep the bike steady over the bumpy downhill track.
Eventually we got to an overlook where we could see the old shipwreck on the northern reef of Lana'i. The uphill to get back ontop of the island seemed daunting, but luckily we had e-bikes. So everyone punched it into boost mode and flew up the hill. We ended up going through pine forest, old plantation red dirt tracks, and even a little bit on the Munro trail which follows the top rim of the volcano that makes Lana'i.
On an island that only has 35 miles of paved roads, we biked over 17 miles of offroad track. There can't be too many people in the world that have gone where we did today. That is the beauty of staying fit and healthy, so you can take advantage of cool adventures like this.
As always, keep traveling!

That looks to be amazing fun.
It was a blast! I'm feeling it tonight though!
We’re considering getting e-bikes because around here there are some nice hilly locations, nothing like the north of England or indeed Hawaii!
I would highly encourage you to go the e-bike route. It makes you feel like a kid again. Like you could ride all day.
I need that!
This is a healthy trip and activity at the same time, you also managed to capture some of the beauty of this place very well.
