On a trip through Italy in the spring of 2017, on the way between Milano and Verona, we turned towards Lake Lago di Garda.
As we didn't plan this location for a tour, we didn't put much hope in finding a cheap parking spot, the crowd was too big.
When we found a free parking space, we were delighted. If we had not visited this small medieval town of Sirmione, which is located on a small peninsula in Lake Garda, we would not have known how much beauty we had missed.
From the parking lot, we headed over the bridge and the big gate into the heart of the fortress city.
We admired the view of the towers and walls of the fortress. We drank coffee in the small square and in the center of this building. Sitting on the shore of the lake, feeding the beautiful swans.
What kind of explorers would we be if we hadn't peeked into some of the few gardens in this little town. They are beautiful. The lake is so big that it resembles the sea. Waves lap the shore, seagulls fly overhead, only the smell of fresh water warns - this is not the sea, this is Lago di Garda.
I love Sirmione. We stayed a few nights there during our honeymoon back in 2006. I loved the Roman ruins and also taking a boat tour around the penisula to see the natural thermal bubbles rising in the lake - what a place !

We only stayed for one afternoon, but the pictures that were etched in my memory then, I don't forget even years later.
I am conjuring up another Italian tour, when I will again visit Sirmione and also Lake Como.
Thanks for tip @hoosie @hoosie 😀
