Our second day in Pilsen began in the morning with a streetcar ride.
The day ticket (24 hours from stamping) there cost 72 crowns, which is the equivalent of about 3 euros.
We often do this, as it allows us to get to areas where you wouldn't otherwise get lost as a tourist.
The streetcars themselves were somehow a hodgepodge of old and new. But the eye-catchers were always the old ones.
When we had passed the station, we got off and crossed an upper part of the city in what felt like minus 10 degrees.
Here, too, you could see how splendidly the houses must have been built in the past. However, it soon became clear that there was no money left for renovations.
Every now and then, however, you come across public buildings that are in good repair.
This here is a grammar school and the park in front of it.
About 300 meters further on is Pilsen's main railway station.
Wow, what a beautiful building.
As you can see, it is also under renovation. But you can still go inside, which is what we did.
The entrance is probably already finished. Here are the underground entrances to the individual tracks.
When you enter the main hall, you're really impressed. Too bad it wasn't finished yet. But you do get a good impression of what it will look like.
It has probably been completely gutted in many places. Occasionally you can still see what the rest looked like.
Right next to the station is the tourist center with an iron observation tower. We went up there to get an overview.
The first picture is the station building.
On the other side is this beautiful house.
But this is also Pilsen. In between, there are always buildings that have not yet been renovated. You're almost afraid to walk on the sidewalk in front of the house. A stone could fall from above.
Just around the corner there is a bridge over a busy road. Our Austrian friends here on Hive might be happy about the "Vienna House" in Pilsen.
On the same bridge, only in the other direction, you can already see the entrance to a special site.

Since the whole city is probably in the hands of this brewery, we also went there.
You can take a guided tour if you wish. However, this tour lasts 120 minutes. To be honest, even if I like beer, I don't need to walk through a brewery for 120 minutes and pay money for it.
If you're already doing a brewery tour, it's advertising and I don't see the point in spending 20 or 30 euros per person on it.
My plan was also to visit the historic vaulted cellars of Pilsen. The entrance was about 500 meters away in the old town. But that turned out to be more difficult.
On the grounds of the Pilsen brewery, we went to the souvenir store just for the sake of interest. Not to buy anything, but because it was raining outside and we wanted to warm up.
But I have to admit, they have a beautiful and large store and probably also great marketing. What brewery can say that they have their own original Converse Chucks edition? They do. I just forgot to take a picture of them.
Next to the brewery across the river is the Pilsen soccer station. Since there was no game in winter, we could only see it from the outside. I don't really know the club, but I'm sure it's sponsored by the Pilsener brewery. They could actually lay a direct pipeline there. It's only a few meters away.
From here, we continued into the city center that day. The rain didn't exactly make it pleasant, but what can you do. The city can't help the weather.
Our destination was the historic cellars of Pilsen. Or so I thought. It would be the first time I'd ever been underground in a city.
But I'll tell you about that another time.
Unser zweiter Tag in Pilsen begann in der Früh mit einer Straßenbahnfahrt.
Die Tageskarte (24h ab Stempelung) dort kostete 72 Kronen was einen Gegenwert von ca. 3 Euro bedeutet.
Wir machen sowas oft, da man so in Gegenden kommt, in denen man sich sonst nicht als Tourist verirrt.
Die Straßenbahnen selber waren irgendwie ein Sammelsurium von alt und neu. Der Hinkucker waren aber immer die Alten.
Als wir den Bahnhof passiert hatten, sind wir ausgestiegen und durchquerten bei gefühlten Minus 10 Grad einen oberen Teil der Stadt.
Auch hier sah man, wie prunkvoll wohl früher die Häuser gebaut worden sind. Man merkte allerdings sehr schnell, dass das Geld für Renovierungen nicht mehr vorhanden ist.
Ab und zu kommt man aber an öffentliche Gebäude, die durchaus in Stand gesetzt sind.
Das hier ist ein Gymnasium und der dazugehörige Park davor.
Ungefähr 300 Meter weiter befindet sich der Hauptbahnhof von Pilsen.
Wow, was für ein schöner Bau.
Er befindet sich gerade ebenfalls in Renovierung wie man sehen kann. Aber trotzdem kann man rein, was wir dann auch gemacht haben.
Der Zugang ist wohl schon fertig. Hier sind die unterirdischen Zugänge zu den einzelnen Gleisen.
Wenn man dann in die Haupthalle kommt, ist man schon schwer beeindruckt. Schade, dass er noch nicht fertig war. Aber einen guten Eindruck, wie er mal wird, hat man schon.
Er ist wohl an vielen Stellen komplett Entkernt worden. Vereinzelt kann man noch sehen, wie der Rest ausgesehen hat.
Gleich neben dem Bahnhof ist das Touristenzentrum mit einem eisernen Aussichtsturm. Wir sind da hoch um uns einen Überblick zu verschaffen.
Das erste Bild ist das Bahnhofsgebäude.
Auf der anderen Seite steht dieses schöne Haus.
Aber auch das ist Pilsen. Zwischendrin gibt es immer mal wieder Gebäude, die noch nicht renoviert worden sind. Man hat schon fast Angst, vor dem Haus auf dem Gehsteig zu laufen. Es könnte ja ein Stein von oben runter fallen.
Gleich dort um die Ecke gibt es eine Brücke über eine vielbefahrene Straße. Unsere Österreichischen Freunde hier auf Hive freuen sich vielleicht über das "Vienna House" in Pilsen.
Auf der selben Brücke, nur in die andere Richtung, sieht man schon den Eingang eines besonderen Geländes.

Da die ganze Stadt wohl in der Hand dieser Brauerei liegt, sind wir auch dort hin.
Man kann eine Führung machen wenn man möchte. Allerdings dauert diese Führung 120 Minuten. Ich bin ehrlich, auch wenn ich Bier mag, brauche ich keine 120 Minuten durch eine Brauerei laufen und dafür noch Geld zu zahlen.
Wenn man schon eine Brauereiführung macht, ist das doch Werbung und dafür noch 20 oder 30 Euro pro Person ausgeben, sehe ich nicht ein.
Außerdem war mein Plan die historischen Gewölbekeller von Pilsen anzusehen. Der Eingang dafür war ungefähr 500 Meter weiter in der Altstadt. Das sollte sich aber als schwieriger herausstellen.
Auf dem Gelände der Pilsener Brauerei sind wir noch kurz rein Interessehalber in den Souveniershop gelaufen. Nicht um etwas zu kaufen, sondern weil es draussen Geregnet hat und wir uns kurz aufwärmen wollten.
Ich muss aber schon gestehen, sie haben einen schönen und großen Laden und wohl auch ein tolles Marketing. Welche Brauerei kann schon sagen, dass sie eine eigene originale Converse Chucks Edition haben. Die haben es. Ich habe nur vergessen sie zu fotografieren.
Neben der Brauerei über den Fluß liegt das Fußballstation von Pilsen. Da im Winter kein Spiel war, konnten wir es nur von Aussen betrachten. Ich kenne den Club nicht wirklich, aber er wird sicher von der Brauerei Pilsener gesponsort. Eigentlich könnten sie eine Direktpipeline dorthin verlegen. Es sind ja nur ein paar Meter bis dorthin.
Von hier ging es für uns an diesem Tag weiter in die Innenstadt. Der Regen machte es uns nicht gerade angenehm, aber was soll man tun. Für das Wetter kann die Stadt nichts.
Das Ziel war ja die historischen Keller von Pilsen. Dachte ich zumindest. Es wäre das erste mal, dass ich in den Untergrund einer Stadt kommen würde.
Das erzähle ich aber ein ander mal.
