One of the most known Lisbon spots is The Elevator. Right in the touristic center of the city, in one of the narrow streets, snuggled between buildings . Even though it seems hidden, you cannot miss it. Especially that it is always highlighted on the maps and tourist programs.
And yea - it is worth seeing. But I don't think it is worth waiting in a long queue an pay (I don't know how much) to go a few stories up. Unless you really want to say you did it and and put a ✔️ on your "things to do in Lisbon" list.
So no, you do not have to do it to get the view from the top. You can just go around on some stairs, more narrow streets passing more lost tourists and end up right u there too :)
That's what I did a few years ago. By accident really as I just wanted to walk around an see what's in the unknown. I ended up on a nice little square with big trees right in from of the Carmo Convent. From there is just few more steps and you are on the eleators walk where you can stay as long as you want andd enjoy the nice city view.
Now here is a fun part. Yesterday as I was browsing though my feed I saw @akida posting about the very same place! We both were there just a couple of weeks apart an even took very similar photos! How cool is that! :D
I didn't shoot the Elevator itself, though I should have. You can check @akida post for that ;)
Link to Akida's post.
An here is what you can see from there:
Right on top of the hill is Saint George's Castle - another must go to spot. It is a nice climb up and an expensive entry, but worth checking out.
More to the left you have King Pedro IV Square with his statue in the middle of it. You can see it on the photo. I shot the bubbles from THIS POST there :)
And just a bit on the right, on the same photo above you can spot a white façade of Church of St. Dominic which I have posted about not so long ago HERE.
All that from behind the locked up fence :)
And while you enjoy the view, right behind you, you have the lovely Convent
With some extra, feathered tourists. I bet she was waiting for someone to rop some food :p
I am surprised she didn't fly away at this point.
Shot with Nikon D5500 + Nikkor 18-55mm lens
All photos and text are my own.
Great photo!
Especially since there is a photo model on them! 😉
There is no such arrangement of houses in Cyprus, which is why it is interesting to me.
hehe they are everywhere :D
@ewkaw In Cyprus, they are not often seen near the sea.
I think that they fly by the sea where there are few people.
That seagull is biding their time looking for their next bombing victim especially in these type of situations 😀
Oh I was too fast and furious for it then :P
Awwww.... A lovely selection of photos, I love seeing those red roofs displayed in delicious visual anarchy and contrasting against the blue sky!!!... A beautiful place and seen from an ideal position... 100 points for that one Wonderful and eloquent photo of the heart-shaped padlock!...
Ha ha ha... What a fun fluke with @akida's post!... That's part of the charm of #Hive!....
Thanks for sharing @ewkaw friend!...

Oh yes, that padlock really caught my eye :) There were others, but this one was cute.
The charm of Hive indeed :D

Seagull on guard!
To the left to the right, no food on sight.
View reminds me a bit of a Novi Sad fortress spot, that also spreads over the roofs.
Please post some more, I never had a chance to visit Lisbon and it looks adorable. (teary eyes)
Away there...

Amazing shoots in taht amazing place😍😍😍
Thank you :)
At first I was trying to look at the first image for the elevator off in the distance, like it was a unique building.
I love being up high in the city, looking down to see what there is to see. A different perspective.
I liked the last photo. The shadows and the eyes of the building.
Haha yea... dummy me didn't take any elevator photos :P
I like the roof views - a completely new city map.

Excellent photos! I've been living in Lisbon for 1 year sharp now, and I couldn't make a better decision! And yes, take the stairs! :D
Thank you! I can tell you are really enjoying it :)
Haha always stairs :D
💙 The beautiful city of Lisbon and the free stairs to the views 💙
I was once tempted to take the elevator.. was just so curious to see what is up there.
But that was before I knew the secret passage ;)
The secret passage is better, of course 😇
well, depends on the situation and can we walk 😬
Firstly, your second picture with that awesome shadow running down the street is epic. I love that.
Second, I had never before heard of the Lisbon Elevator, but I am intrigued by it. I'm going to jump over to @akida's post, too, to take a look. I agree, it's amazing where one's feet will take them if given the opportunity.
Third, those birds look like some pretty cool
catsbirds, just chilling and watching all us fools stay earth bound.Thank you!
I am sure you would know exactly what you are looking at if you were in Lisbon. Just cant mis it :) I should have taken some photo of it... didn't think of that then.
Hahaha yea... an when the fools with drop some food :D
A wonderful view! I really like the architecture and the colors, it is a very nice place.
Thank you! The view from there is pretty stunning.
To think you got this crisp and stunning photos with a kit lens 😳
