No, it is not what you think. It has nothing to do with the red and Amsterdam. Not anymore anyway ;)
Rua Nova do Carvalho had some very shady beginnings. It is a pedestrian street once known as a meeting point for sailors, local criminals and prostitutes.

The Pink Street (officially Rua Nova do Carvalho) is VERY pink! And it is filled with coffee tables, colorful umbrellas and people. Lots of people! In the evening it is even more crowded. With multiple pubs and clubs open until late night it fills up with crowd pretty fast.
In the source link above you can see few of the bars. Since I was just passing by, and during the day I did not shoot any of them. It would be very hard though all that crowd anyway.
You may want to notice the amount of garbage on the side (photo above)... but hey - that's what some tourists do ;)
Have I heard about it before?
Of course not! Even though it has been there (not the street itself, but the pink paint) for 10 years already.
It was one of those accidental discoveries when you walk, look around.. and then bam! How come I haven't seen it before? :o
Maybe because it is not very long and it ends on the next crossroad on both sides. The street that goes above with the yellow bridge gives a nice view to each side.
Pink street and matching pink shirt :D
Can you see it?
That's the little bridge I was mentioning. I was shooting from up there. Thank you Google :p
Google maps
If you would like to visit, here is where to find it. It is very close to the main square (Praça do Comércio):

Been there as well...Lisbon is such a cool city. Enjoy it.
It is cool. I should wander around it more often.
WOW!!
The umbrellas look great!
They are! And give nice shade from the sun too.
Fun! I wonder whose idea that was. Thanks for showing it to us.
I read it was to bring more life to this area and get rid of the shady business. It wasn't the safest place either. So I guess it worked :)
My bro @dandays would feel right at home on pink street... 👍
He should definitely visit then :)
It's hard to see the street's colour with so many people there all the time now! :)
Oh yea.. it was soooo crowdy! Must be nice when it rains :p
😁😁
Gee, I've never heard of this pink street!.... If this were in Paris, I'd say it was a tribute to the cartoon "The Pink Panther" (Oh my gosh, I just felt really old saying that) ha ha ha ;-)
Beautiful street of that magical city, interesting post, thanks for sharing it and let me know about it!

Oh I now Pink Panther too ;)
Thank you! I is really cool. I would love to see it with less people on it though.
Whoa, that is a VERY pink and colourful street. I'm not surprised it pulls in tourists. Interesting history, I had never heard of it before so it's now in my bank of interesting but somewhat not useful information 🤣 Doubt I'll ever get to see it, but glad I got a glimpse through your pics.
Hahaha and for some reason they always stick better than some of the useful ones :D Glad I could help :D
Oh I love collecting info like that, it's great. My mind has tons of those little tidbits 😁
Yes. That guy with the red cap. I guess red and pink go well together ;).
Of course they do :D
