I usually look forward to visiting sites that can give me a taste of nature. One day I decided to go for Mag-Aso Falls, and that was one of my best decisions ever made. It gave me that feeling of being transported into a secluded paradise from the moment I stepped foot into it. It was everything, the sound of the waterfalls, the clean air, and the fresh greenery, all a balm to my soul.
Mag-Aso Falls is in Bohol, Philippines, and is not as popular as the other tourist attractions in the area, which is what makes it more enchanting. It was never crowded; I am so glad when I visited because there were very few people, and I got to enjoy the place without any interruptions.
The Waterfalls
The falls have a height of about eight meters. The water comes pouring down and plunges into an azure pool, surrounded by protruding rocks and trees. The sound of the water was so melodious, I stood there for a while soaking it in. I was wowed as well with the color of the water-it was clean and bright. The blue color of the water is said to be derived from the limestone deposits around the area.
As I got closer to the waterfalls, I felt the cool mist hit my face.A super refreshing feel especially when the sun's scorching. I put my feet in the water and it was lovely. Some people were swimming and lounging near the falls. If you're a strong swimmer, you can dive into the pool but do so with caution because of the slippery rocks.
The Environs
The beautiful area surrounding Mag-Aso Falls does justice to the falls. Tall trees and green plants surround the waterfalls, giving one the feel of tropical oasis. I also saw many ferns and many vines growing on the rocks, thus making it even prettier. There were also birds chirping in the background, which made the whole experience even more magical.
Visitors are welcome to sit at some picnic tables and quaint little cottages near site to eat their food. I brought some snacks with me and had the time of my life enjoying them while taking in the scenery. If you choose to visit this place, I would advise you to pack light but make sure you don't forget to pack water and food.
The Swimming Pool
There are basically two kinds of bathing facilities in Mag-Aso Falls - one is a natural waterfall and the other is a man-made swimming pool. This man-made one is situated near the entrance and is indeed a nice wholesome place for families with children. The swimming pool is clean, well-preserved, and has seating around the pool where one can relax. Although I preferred the natural cascade, the swimming pool is another great option for those who want a more secure and easily accessed swimming area.
What I Loved About Mag-Aso Falls
What I loved most about Mag-Aso Falls is how peaceful and natural it feels. It is not crowded or commercialized, so you can really connect with nature. I spent a few hours there just walking around, listening to the sound of the water, and taking in the beauty of the scenery. Perfect for relaxing and recharging.
If it is solitude and quiet that you like, then you should definitely visit Mag-Aso Falls. It offers swimming, photo sessions, and sightseeing, something special for everyone. I also enjoyed how easy it was to discover the area, which has stairs and pathways leading to the falls, hence making it best for first-time explorers.
How to Get There
Mag-Aso Falls could easily be reached. From Tagbilaran City, it's about an hour's drive away. Or you may also hire a car, take a motorcycle or, better yet, hire a local guide. I'd rather hire a guide myself to make things easier without hesitation as they are quite very familiar with the territory.
Found in the city of Antequera, the waterfalls are not hard to miss since there are signage directed toward it. The entrance fee required here is within the range of every pocket, making it budget-friendly. Thereafter, you would need to descend a staircase to reach the falls. The stairs are safe and easy to navigate, though they can be quite slippery when it rains.
Mag-Aso Falls is really one of nature's most well-kept secrets in Bohol. If you will ever plan a holiday trip going to the Philippines, don't forget to visit this place in your itinerary. It is a sweet spot for being safe, enjoying nature, and keeping unforgettable moments.
