Leaving Ecuador for good?

in Worldmappinlast year

As my property hunting vacation in Mompiche ended, it was time to head back to Quito and get ready for my flight. I had three days/nights to spend, so I had to squeeze the most out of the rest of my time in Ecuador. Coming back to Quito was like crossing a border to another country already. The coastal fishing village in comparison is really quite a different world. I have arrived on a sunny afternoon and instantly felt different than in Mompiche.

The view from my hostel was near perfect. Not to mention that I was the only guest and had the whole room for myself. People are scared to go to Ecuador now as the news about gang crime went viral. One has to surely think about it, but honestly most of the time it is unnecessary worries. Sure, be more careful after the dark, but don't let fear of junkies and criminals rule over you life.

I have decided not to cook for my last few days and finally started enjoying some local very budget friendly dishes as for example local version of Pinchos - seen on the last picture.

The sunny terrace of Latin Brothers hostel become my gourmet place to be. I have brought many things upstairs to enjoy them with the priceless view. Including fresh cacao, which was so damn interesting I can't even describe it. Maybe that the cacao beans when fresh are not that great, but the white flash surrounding them is as sweet as honey...

I have never had such mixed feelings when leaving a country yet. I actually didn't want to... But the visa situation is unsolvable as my country doesn't even have an embassy in Ecuador. The nearest one is located in Bogota where I was headed next. Staying would require to cancel or reschedule my flights for a fat fee and I have decided that I can deduct this reschedule fee rather from the full price of another flight - if it would come to it - for my return.

So at the moment of writing - Quito in Ecuador was kind of a milestone, the furthest I have ever been and it is time to go back to my home - Europe.

Hope you all reading and commenting have enjoyed the ride with me. I still have few flights to take and cities to visit, so stay tuned for a little bit more from Latin America to come.

All the best,

Global Local
