Buxoro Arena

The stadium is host predominantly for football matches ( It is FOOTBALL, not fucking SOCCER), though it also hosts other sports mainly athletic events. It has a cowd capacity of 27,000.

The complex was built specifically for the 2002 Summer World Student games (think olympics for soap dodgers)

Fortune favours the brave, lets wander in, what is the worst that can happen? hmm? The sign above the open door read as I now found out "ASSOCIATION OF DISABLED PEOPLE OF UZBEKISTAN REGIONAL DEPARTMENT OF BUKHARA REGION"

_DSC5556.jpeg

_DSC5549.jpeg

A couple of old display signs just lying around, trying all the closed doors, as you do.

_DSC5550.jpeg

A nice comfy sitting area, no one about, when finally a door that opened

_DSC5551.jpeg

A rather messy workbench

_DSC5547.jpeg

and on the floor a mass of vintage false legs, what amazing treasure

_DSC5553.jpeg

Tools and stuff

_DSC5548.jpeg

How these vintage legs were created...... with an aluminium frame and leather sheathes

_DSC5552.jpeg

A few odd shoes

_DSC5555.jpeg

and a mass of false feet, amazing social history

Extracting myself and plodding on I next ended up in a gym

_DSC5546.jpeg

_DSC5542.jpeg

A boxing gym, with a tribute to veteran boxers of the region and the clubs they belonged to

When out of the blue jumped these two guys, I couldn't understand them, they couldn't understand me, I pointed the camera they understood and gladly gave me this pose, a shake of hands and off I went

Eventually finding myself in the stadium proper

_DSC5537.jpeg

A rather splendid multi purpose modern stadium, loved the way I just walked around, without a care in the world, loving what I was seeing.

FC Bukhoro was originally formed in 1960, and changing its name to FK Buxoro in 1997. A professional team, unknown to me, have never won anything during their time. But they do play in a great stadium.

If this were the UK, believe me you would not be able to just walk into a place like this; if you did the place would now be swarming with cops, probably armed, probably a helicopter hovering overhead,

_DSC5538.jpeg

Even the ladies taking a break in the shade didn't bat an eyelid, it is as though they see interlopers mooching about everyday.

The kids undergoing some athletics training just carried on with their routines.

Next? The dead centre of Bukhara

Awesome, I would have walked in too 😁
The pose of the 2 guys is great. Sometimes you don’t need words…

This is what Western society lacks - openness.

Trust no one
Question everything

I wonder why they still have the workshop and all those leg bits lying around

Weird huh?

I love that you could wander about. At first I thought the exterior looked good for an abandon stadium. Then the first finds confirmed things left from the past. I wondered why the tools, false legs etc are still there. It is nice to see the stadium looking modern and used with friendly people.

Yes, perhaps they had gone for a lunch break and my timing was right, I did wonder myself about it being abandoned, but still a great place just to wander aound
