Hello! ๐ Hi! Mabuhay! How are you dear Hivers? I hope everyone's doing fine! โจ
Last weekend was just an ordinary day, my beau and I decided to go to an adventure. However, we had no idea where to go. So I picked up my phone and searched for perfect places for dates near us. After minutes of searching, I chose Medellin, Cebu as our destination.
A BIT OF MEDELLIN
Medellin is one of the municipalities in the north that has beautiful beaches, golf course, wide fields of sugarcanes and is famous for its long aisle surrounded by sugarcane plantation. And since I studied college in this municipality, I am quiet familiar of the beautiful sceneries and tourist spots.
To look back to the memories I had, I excitedly shared to him the one of the pride of the place called "Medellin Funtastic Zipline and Cable Car". In 2016, I went there with my travel buddies including my sister to have an adventure. That time was not yet fully developed but it was functional. One thing i regret not doing was to try the bicycle and zipline. I was scared to do strenuous activities that time. So I promised myself that I would go back to experience the things I missed.
NOTE: The following photos are in low quality due to poor camera and left in storage for seven years. Please bear with them. My sincerest apology to all ๐
That's how I looked like seven years ago. cringe Lol
Why was I so coward at that time? Had I only tried this thing, I would have felt their excitement and joy when they did. (sniffs)
These photos were taken by me way back 2016. During these years, the thematic color of the place is purple, apple green and orange. All of the tourist destinations are painted with these colors. Even in the road, you could see them. When you hear the Medellin, you can remember easily because of its attractive signature.
Nostalgia.
Meanwhile, As I shared this story with him, He just replied, "ok, Let's go then". So, to the Zipline we gooooo!
Fun Fact: Every adventure we go, I always make the plans, itinerary and decisions. I'm good at this. (winks)
THE AISLE I WANT TO WALK
We travelled for an hour to reach the destination. we passed by the aisle of Medellin. Then we took the chance to pose for a selfie. Then, relax for minutes before we continued our journey.
Aisle of Medellin is known after it is discovered through aerial photo that looked like an aisle. It became an instant go-to-place of the motorists and locals during pandemic. It has four wide lanes and photographers often visit to photograph riders. Eventually, business owners used the opportunity to build cafes and restos. Until now, motorists stop by to relax and pose for a souvenir.
While on our way, I did not see any signage about the zipline anymore. I know for sure we were near, but there were no signs at all. Instead, we saw this one. So to myself, "Aaaah, maybe they haven't put a campaign yet". With a bit of hesitation, I googled the map of the zipline. Well, I also like getting lost in an adventure. This seemed fine.
Finally, we arrived.
The road going atop is uphilly. If you want to go on foot, you can use the long stairs. If you have a motorbike, you can reach the top without a sweat. Something's different. (wonders)
After I saw the place, I realized there were no ziplines nor bicycle and cable cars anymore. No more colorful views, but only a solemn shrine. I was taken aback by the view. Everything was totally renovated and changed.
Since we were there already, we decided to check out this solemn and holy place. There were no visitors and tourists that time. We only saw nanay selling candles and offers prayers.
The place is now changed from Funtastic Shrine to Immaculate Concepcion Shrine. According to locals we interviewed, the reason behind the change involved politics. The previous administration focused on tourism to attract tourists whole the current administration supported the land owner's decision about the shrine.
Nevertheless, may it be Zipline or Shrine, they both offer relaxing and refreshing view.
THE SHRINE ATOP
In the shrine, You can light your candles for your prayers and wishes, and at the same time savor the fresh air. Each candle costs five peso. There is a proper place to light them.
The landscape also looked amazing. The place was surrounded with different flowers and ornamentals. Apart from that, the view is overlooking. From the top, you can see the center of Medellin and the wide fields of sugarcane. Greens and blues are perfectly matched. You can totally distress yourself. The place is open for all. You can bring your families and friends to relax and meditate. Oh! I forgot to ask whether they are open at night or not. Don't worry, I'll check this place again once I go back.
To sum up, wherever your destination is, what matters most is your company the memories you made together. It was such a long ride. It was such a long time. I just love this kind of moment in which we talked about future life, and the future travels.
