Discovering nature has always been one of my favorite pastimes. There is just something about it that makes me feel like I belong and that my soul is meant to be in one with it although at times, I love the mesmerizing view of the city lights and other man-made tourist attractions. But being with nature has that kind of spell that captivates my inner being with its enchanting mystery and charismatic adventure.
Nature never fails to amuse me.
So today, I decided to jump out of my room and see the beauty of Santander's hidden gem -- SALAY FALLS.
SANTANDER
Some of you might ask, "What is it? Is it even a place or a famous destination or a food?" But the answer is yes and no. It is a place, yes. But for now, it is not yet one of the most famous destinations and most especially, it's not a food.
Kidding aside, this is what I like about the place -- the simplicity. I like how it silently screams its beauty and only those who have lived here for a long period of time perhaps could see that this place is something remarkable and realize why people who lived here get hooked to be here.
And I live here to tell the tale because the moment I stepped foot on this town, I told myself "This is exactly where I belong."
Santander is just a small town and for a fact, I hadn't known it existed if I was not assigned to teach here even though it is still a part of the province (Cebu) I am living. It has a port which fetches people from Dumaguete City to Cebu but people will just pass by the town and no one dares to visit it unless they have families or relatives or jobs waiting for them here.
So only a few know about this. Only a few have an idea that in this small town lies its hidden gem.
And I am glad to be one of those few individuals who get to discover the beauty of this nature-indulged treasure and more than glad that I get to share my adventures in this place with you.
SALAY FALLS
It was only mid of last year (2022) when I first heard people here in this town talking about Salay Falls. They said it was nice in there and that the water was very relaxing. And as a naturally born curious type of person, I visited the place and it was indeed beautiful.
The falls has just a small amount of water and a not-so-steep kind of hill. It's just enough to relax your mind and pamper yourself with the coldness it can offer.
People can also go there and fetch some water to drink or have their laundry done.
In this thin pipe, a fresh and clean water comes out and people will bring their gallons for their drinking water.
And oh, by the way, there is no entrance fee. You can just go there anytime you want and just have to walk approximately three to five minutes from the barangay road to the waterfalls itself.
You have to cross this rocky and bushy path towards the waterfalls.
However, people got crazy about the news that someone had seen a huge snake in the waterfalls so it had gone silent and deserted for awhile but since it is already summer and the heat has been unbearable, the people in this town flocked the place again.
And I, visited it one more time.
ONE WITH NATURE
I lie down on top of the waterfalls and it was amazing to feel that I was for a short period of time, one with nature. I just closed my eyes and felt the cold the water had brought to me at the back of my head down to my spine and legs. It felt surreal especially when I opened my eyes and saw the tall wild trees on top of me like they were hugging me and all of the stresses from the real world had gone in an instant.
Suddenly, tiny droplets of rain fell down my face and I couldn't help myself but smile to that magnificent feeling I felt at that exact moment.
TOP OF THE WATERFALLS
Whenever I see waterfalls, I always thought how it feels to be on top of it -- to be at the point of view of the hills above and see the water as it falls. So, I tried staying on the top. Only this time it's a smaller version yet, it still gives me a miniature of how it must be felt.
The impatient rushing of the water down my legs and feet gives me that kind of satisfaction I couldn't deny of. I just spent the rest of my time there watching the water splashing and hurrying towards what's under.
Surely, this place has fascinated me and it leaves a mark in my memory I cannot erase. It may be hidden for some but it is for sure a gem for me.
It indeed a hidden. I would wish not many will know it hehe. So that it will maintain its pristine state.
I agree @bluepark. Hope it will remain as it is.

what a paradisiacal place, it must be relaxing to go to such a place.
I love how spontaneous you are. The simplicity of the places brings so much calmness and peace. That is a refreshing activity to beat the summer heat! Wish you could give me a tour someday.
