A stroll along the Rabat coast

in Worldmappin3 days ago

Hello dear friends!

I hope you're well and in good spirits. Today I'd like to take you on a trip along the Rabat coast. As you may already know, I'm a great lover of nature, and of the sea in particular. It inspires me with its beauty, its immensity and the majestic aura it exudes. Nothing relaxes me more than feeling the sea air on my face and contemplating its waves.

My walk began with a visit to the famous historic maritime gateway known as Bab-Marsa, which opens directly onto the Atlantic. In the past, this site served as a strategic passageway for trade and shipping. Today, it's an iconic site that attracts both locals and visitors curious to discover the city's rich past.

Built under the Almohad dynasty in the 12th century, here you can feel the echoes of the port activities of yesteryear, where ships docked to unload their goods from the East and West. What makes Bab-Marsa so unique is its geographical location. It lies close to the mouth of the Bouregreg, offering an uninterrupted view of the river and the neighbouring city of Salé.

As you pass behind this door, another world opens up to you: narrow streets steeped in history, uniquely charming buildings and traditional markets.... Every corner of this old part of Rabat exudes an authenticity that really amazed me on this visit.

After strolling through the narrow streets of the historic quarter behind the Bab-Marsa maritime gate, I continued my walk along the coastline. There, a small café, almost hidden but perfectly situated, caught my eye. Its simple charm and peaceful atmosphere invited me to sit there for a while. I settled down at a small table and took the time to relax while sipping a glass of mint tea. This kind of break, so simple but so precious, makes every ride even more memorable.

As I said, I have a special relationship with the sea. Its smell, its light, refreshing breezes... It all fascinates me. What's more, it's often said that breathing the sea air is good for your health, both physically and mentally.

So, of course, I couldn't resist the call of the waves. I approached, savouring every moment: the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, the texture of the sand beneath my feet, and the dance of the seagulls above the water as well as the various birds that greet me here with caution 😄

As I looked out over the horizon, memories of my teenage years came flooding back. At the time, I was living in Rabat and I had a very dear girl friend with whom I shared a beautiful complicity. We used to come here, by the sea, and spend hours talking, laughing and simply enjoying the view. Those moments were full of happiness and simplicity, and I realise today just how much they affected me.

Look at this little natural pond surrounded by luminous green algae. I found the combination of the soft stones and the texture of the algae really fascinating.

I love this wider panorama of waves gently skimming the moss-covered rock formations, while the sand retains the footprints, souvenirs of visitors who, like me, have been charmed by this place.

My walk ended in front of the iconic Rabat lighthouse. It's a place that naturally invites contemplation. Sitting there, facing the ocean, I indulged my favourite passion: meditation. The sound of the waves and the immensity of the landscape in front of me allowed me to refocus and feel a profound sense of serenity.
