Morning walk in the Ibn-Battouta district of Tangier, Morocco

in Worldmappin5 days ago

Hello Hive community,

A few days ago, I spent the night at my cousin's house, who lives in the Ibn Battouta district of Tangier (my cousin's name is Tariq, the same name as the famous Tariq Ibn-Ziyad, who also had a connection with Tangier 😊, he was governor of Tangier in the 8th century). It was a pleasant evening and I slept well. The next morning, I woke up early, ready to start the day.

When I woke up, I decided to take a cold shower and felt much more energetic. Once I was dressed, I headed out into the city centre to do some shopping and also to the Medina to discover the historic monuments and museums there.

But before I could even think about having breakfast, something struck me: the area where my cousin lives is really beautiful. The streets were still quiet, the morning air was fresh, and the greenery was magnificent and very well kept. I took a moment to observe, then an idea came to me: ‘Why not take advantage of this beautiful morning to go for a little walk before going into town?’

It would give me a chance to breathe some fresh air, move around a bit and, above all, appreciate the charm of the neighbourhood before continuing on with my day.

This tall tree with its many branches reaching skywards really attracted me. Its location alone here gives it a lot of character. What really invites me to go for a walk are these little paths accompanied by a row of younger trees! All in all, it creates a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a walk in the heart of nature. From time to time I just wanted to sit back and enjoy the moment.

Behind the tree is a small sports complex, part of a complex of football stadiums.

But the biggest and most important of these stadiums is the Ibn-Battouta stadium. At the moment, it is still being rebuilt. Morocco is preparing to host two major football events! First, there's the African Cup of Nations in 2025. Then, even bigger, there's the World Cup in 2030, which Morocco will be co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. It's a very important project for the country, and a lot of things are changing to be ready in time.

On 28 July 2012, FC Barcelona took on Raja Casablanca at the Ibn-Battouta stadium in Tangiers. A friendly, of course, but not just any friendly! It was a great opportunity for Moroccan fans to get up close and personal with one of the biggest clubs in the world.

As I walked past the stadium, I hesitated for a moment. Should I take a taxi straight away or enjoy the fresh air a little longer? In the end, the weather was so pleasant that I preferred to continue my walk along the boulevard. The air was mild, with a light breeze blowing, making the walk even more pleasant.

I walked quietly, watching the passers-by, and after about 500 metres I finally decided to catch a taxi to the city centre.

I really enjoy these moments of sharing, even through a simple text and small photos, and I'm already looking forward to seeing you again for a next time. In the meantime, take care of yourself and enjoy the little pleasures of everyday life. See you soon!
