In the Lap of the Himalayas: A Winter Tale from Rudranath

in Worldmappin14 hours ago

I slept in a hut near Rudranath temple and it was good that I had taken my own sleeping bag so I did not feel cold at night. I think the temperature at night must have been -7 degrees because my sleeping bag performs well in -5 degrees but by morning I started feeling a little cold in it. In the morning I wake up early and when I get out of the hut, the view outside has completely changed, the evidence of the rain that happened at night is visible in the form of white snow on the land of the Himalayas.

Where on one side the rays of the sun are touching the earth, on the other side the snowy peaks are shining as if calling out to God. I am witnessing this wonderful view and want to keep this feeling in my heart and think that this feeling should come with me to my home so that I can live it like this whenever I want. I am sitting at the gate of the hut and just looking at this supernatural view and am lost.

A cool breeze helps me to come out of the control of the mountains, I go inside and pack my sleeping bag and now my job is to search for people here, whether anyone is here or not. After about 15 minutes of effort, I go ahead and find some people in another hut who have come to repair the path leading to the temple. When I talk to them, I come to know that these people will stay here for the rest of the month but the work has stopped due to snowfall.

While snow is falling all around in the Himalayas, the @winterchallenge organized by @worldmappin is proving to be a superhit, all the hivers are performing their best and putting up great posts, after reading which I cannot stop myself from resharing. 2 days ago, my post was at second place in #traveldigest and believe me, this gave me a boost to continue in this challenge.

The Rudranath temple is so old that this temple has seen human civilization grow and develop in front of it. This temple is situated at an altitude of 3700 meters. The history of this temple is that; This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. In the war of Mahabharata, the Pandavas defeated the Kauravas who were their brothers, to atone for this guilt, the Pandavas started searching for Lord Shiva so that they could be freed from sins by worshipping him. But Lord Shiva hid to test them and appeared much later.

According to another legend, Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of Rudra to his devotees, due to which this place was also named Rudranath. Every year special worship is done here on the day of Shivratri, during the Nanda Ashtami festival a huge crowd gathers here to receive the blessings of the Lord. I have merged in the infinite peace here, I am just sitting and looking at the mountains. Since these days the doors of the temple are closed, so I see the face form of the Lord from outside.

Snow has fallen all around, I am walking around and seeing my shoes sinking in the snow. I have hiked 3 kms here at such a height. This place above the tree line is very cold, there is less oxygen here and a lot of effort is required to walk. It took me about an hour and a quarter to hike 3 kms. I am thinking about going back as it will be very difficult to go back because my shoes are slipping on walking in the snow and their grip is completely gone.

Here below 3700 meters, forests are visible which are covered with snow, earth is visible which is covered with white snow, snowy mountains visible in the distance are covered with snow, the temple here is covered with snow and when the sun rose from the lap of the earth, it seemed that it too was as cold and white as snow. The dignity, vastness and compassion of these mountains is present in every particle of the earth. It is a matter of good fortune for me to travel here and I will start walking back down from here tomorrow. That is all for today. Next blog tomorrow in which I will travel back from Rudranath.
