Hello, travelers, and community, greetings. Today I am exploring Steinvika, a key part of the UNESCO geopark in our area,
Steinvika is located in Telemark county.
This geopark is totally different from the glacially polished igneous Larvkite rock we are used to here on the coast Instead Steinvika is composed of limestone, a sedimentary rock that rich with fossil deposits.
October was quite boring-windy, rainy, and gray, but November started with unseasonally good weather. The wind has been slack, and we see the sun most days. We wanted to take advantage of the nice weather. And planned to drive to Steinvika, as we haven't visited there in the autumn season.
We took the E18 national highway south and then turned toward Langesund (To get to Seinvika we have to drive through this town). We came to the tunnel entrance which connected to no. 352 internal road. Before getting to that road we passed through this tunnel. The entrance is beautiful with the bottom of this tall rock-wall.
We have often driven on that road and noticed the rock walls from the car, but this time we stopped on the roadside to see them clearly. The vegetation on those rocks is amazing.
the rocks look like they are sculptured and carved.
We drove through Langesund to Steinvika, The roads were so narrow that two passing cars barely fit, the parking area was full but luckily we managed to squeeze into one place to park. We have to walk a kilometer to get to the sea.
Some information about the place and area.
The brown color foliage and bear trees look beautiful but I don't
Like seeing bear trees.
While walking in the forest, I noticed many paths leading down to the sea.
In summer there are lots of people who come here to enjoy summer activities.
We are almost at Steinvika and I noticed the sun is shining but the wind is playing its role. It was windy there.
Some families were leaving. I expected fewer people, but many families with children were there, and everybody wanted to enjoy the sunshine despite the wind blowing. (Norwegians say there is no bad weather if you good clothing.
Low sun at half past 1
The beautiful pebbles, nice to paint them to turn in kindness rock. But it is legally not allowed to take any rock or pebble from that place.

to get to the site where fossils are most prevalent, you have to climb downstairs and venture out on the rocks. it was very windy making the rocks wet and slippery, I didn't dare to walk there in these conditions, so my husband went there but because of the water flash on the camera lens, he couldn't take photos. so we will come back when it is calmer, better in the summer.
It was only 02.30 pm yet the sun was very low. it sets around 4 o'clock these days. we had one more place to explore so we turned back from the beach.
After a little walk on asphalt, we were back in the forest on an alternative path to the parking place.
It was steep and full of fallen leaves. i am glad there was a rope to hold on to while climbing.
back at the drawbridge. i think they close the road during winter.
And here we are walking back to the parking place. Just turned back and took a photo saying thanks to the place.
These two photos are from parking a small lighthouse located on the Langesund Tangen/Fort.
We planned to go there next time.
Headed to the finest rocky beach Rojnstranda.
Thank you.
