I have found that a simple morning walk in the park, on a pleasant cool morning when the park is empty, is enough to start my day in a positive manner. This week we decided to visit a park about 10 minutes from home. We are always drawn to a small island filled with birds whenever we drive by this place. We have driven by this park dozens of times and I've noticed that during warmer seasons, especially spring and summer, many birds fly here to reside, whereas in winter there are fewer. So this place is often referred to in my mind as "bird park". Actually, until today, I just discovered this area exactly called Lake Gillawarna stormwater wetland.
The term wetlands refers to areas of land that are covered in water either temporarily or permanently. Plants and animals that live in water levels that are affected by the weather are adapted to variable conditions. It helps protect the health of the main river as well as improving the water quality within the lake. Designed to treat stormwater runoff and store floodwaters, they are strategically placed in the catchment.
Much of the landscape in cities is composed of hard surfaces. When it rains, the water runoff from these surfaces enters the stormwater system and eventually the creeks and rivers. Stormwater usually contains pollutants which are harmful to the aquatic ecosystem. Once storm water enters Lake Gillawarna, it can remain there for long periods.
On the day we visited, the park was quite empty. What I mean here is it's empty with people around. There were instead hundreds of birds. This time is nearly the end of the summer, so the weather is still warm. The vegetation is very rich and grows well in this climate, which is also an abundant food source that attracts birds to live here before winter comes.
This park is connected with other parks by bicycle lane. From our house, we can actually ride our bike to here. It's a great place to have BBQ picnic or to take your children for a day out.
Thank you everyone for visiting my blog today. It's just a bit of sharing about my daily life. There are times when the simplest things are the most comforting. You can forget all the stresses of life by immersing yourself in nature. Sometimes all I dream of is an idyllic life, waking up every morning in the middle of a green garden, planting vegetables, raising animal by myself to provide food for my whole family. We all have the right to dream, despite the fact that there are more things to worry about in the modern world. And I know that by working harder, smarter and reaching financial independence sooner, I can make that dream come true.
