Hey Hivers! It has been ages since I last posted.

Finally decided to write again because of the pump last December (hahahaha). In this post, I will share with you one of our quick trips at our favorite practice spot for freediving - Kontiki in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Freediving is a sport where you test the limits of your lungs, ears, and state of mind.

Over the weekend, I asked my freediving buddies to do a fun dive because it has been ages since my last dive (it’s some time in August of 2024). Sadly, most of my freediving buddies had prior commitments, so it was only I and Kuya Franz who were able to commit. Hence, I invited my ex-colleague for a dive, and good thing she was free.

About Club Kontiki

Club Kontiki is a place in Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, famous for practicing freediving and scuba diving. Pacific Blue Freediving, where I got my intro class, is also in that area. It is not as grandiose as other spots, but it has a great area for practicing from 3 meters to 20 meters or more! If you have luck, though, you can spot turtles and school sardines in the area. As of January 2025, the entrance fee, including rent for tables and chairs, costs P300 per person. Surpriseeeeee~

What I don’t like about here though is that there are many island-hopping boats, so the sea tends to have some boat gas, which is icy - hence you have to cover up. Good thing CJ here wore a rashguard but didn’t wear leggings, so some cute jellyfish stung him on his legs. Got ‘em battle scars, ain’t it? haha

Let’s Go for a Fun Dive!

During our fun dive, I didn’t think that I could still hold my breath, equalize, and reach the depths. I had troubles at first though because I forgot to take Bonamin, and my hyperacidity acted up. For our first round, we only opted to try duck dives at 5 meters max. Kuya Franz and Ms. Anne were also practicing their finning and their duck dives. What a fun way to start! Lol. After an hour of attempting to become a mermaid, we decided to take a break.

We went back to our tables, and I took the chance to take Kremil-S to aid my hyperacidity. We had chika-chika for around half an hour (good thing Kuya Franz and Ms. Anne were able to chika even though they just met, haha). Then we decided to go back.

On this round, we did the same thing - duck diving, practicing finning, trying to get some fun shots until I braced myself up and decided to try going beyond 10 meters deep.

On my first attempt, I was surprised I was able to do 11.2 meters!! I did that with hyperacidity and motion dizzyness!! I went up to the surface and was glad. They cheered me for that.

After a while, I decided again for another round. I didn’t think of breaking my limits, but while I was going down, it was all great. I was relaxed, trying to fin as I went deep. Then I glanced at my watch, and it said I was 14 meters deep!! My breath was still fine, and I thought I could still go deeper. And then I went for it… and I took a look again at my watch, and it said I’m 15.8 meters deep!!! I slightly panicked, so I decided to return to the surface. My breathhold was still okay, my ears were perfect, it was just I was a bit panicking, haha! When I reached the surface, Kuya Franz and Ms. Anne cheered, hahaha! Kuya Franz took a video of me but said that I wasn’t that visible when I reached the bottom. I was so happy and satisfied. It was my recorded best personal yet, to think that my last dive before this was months ago! I was so happy 😌

We went back and called it a day. Hopefully, I can go back freediving sometime soon. I would like to know how to do frenzel equalization and do bubble rings, haha!

That’s all for today. Hope you had fun reading this post. See you again soon!
