Hello, everyone! It has been two weeks since I returned from an exciting three-day trip to Rome, and I would like to share my experiences with you.
The Eternal City is truly a magical place, steeped in history, art, and culture. During my stay, I had the opportunity to visit some of the most iconic landmarks and indulge in delicious local cuisine. In this post, I will recount my itinerary and guide you through this wonderful adventure.
Day 1: Exploring Rome and Admiring its Churches and Squares
The first day started with our arrival in Rome by the high-speed Frecciarossa train. We checked into the Lloyd Hotel, a convenient accommodation near the city center. After settling into our room, we immediately set out to explore the city. Our first stop was a delightful pizzeria where we savored a typical Roman "pizza al taglio" (pizza by the slice). We then headed towards Piazza del Popolo, making several stops along the way to admire the magnificent churches and soak in the art and culture housed within them. Upon reaching Piazza del Popolo, we took our time exploring the two small churches and strolling around the square, captivated by its beauty.
Next, we visited Villa Borghese, one of the places I enjoyed the most, and marveled at the panoramic view from the Pincio terrace.
We then descended towards Spanish Steps to admire the church and the Barcaccia Fountain.
Afterward, we made our way to the crowded but breathtaking Trevi Fountain. We also visited the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, immersing ourselves in the history and grandeur of these locations.
For dinner, we tried The Look, a restaurant near our hotel, where we enjoyed authentic Roman cuisine.
In total, we walked approximately 21 kilometers during this eventful day.
Day 2: From the Vatican to the Colosseum - Immersed in Historical Grandeur
The second day was dedicated to a historical tour. We woke up early and headed to the Vatican.
We had a nice morning walk along the Tiber River, admired Rome's beautiful old bridges and listened to the sounds of the river, until we saw two police officers on horseback.
So we began to see St. Peter's Square in the distance which became more and more beautiful as we got closer, until once inside we were able to enjoy the majesty of that place.
Unfortunately, the overwhelming number of visitors prevented us from entering the Vatican Museums, but to make up for it, we redirected our path towards the Colosseum. During the journey, we admired impressive structures such as the Church of Sant'Andrea della Valle and the monument of Vittorio Emanuele II.
Before reaching the Colosseum we also made a stop at Danilo's, recommended by a friend, where we had what was claimed to be the best carbonara in Rome, and it truly lived up to its reputation.
Finally, we reached the Colosseum, where we spent the afternoon exploring this majestic amphitheater and nearby sites such as the Circus Maximus, the Mouth of Truth, and the Capitoline Hill, with its breathtaking beauty.
We also admired the Trajan's Forum and passed by the Quirinal Palace before returning to the hotel.
For dinner, we went to Baffetto, one of the typical Roman pizzerias, and then enjoyed a pleasant evening stroll along the Tiber River's island and in the Trastevere district, sipping drinks at charming bars.
On our way back, thanks to the late hour and fewer crowds, we revisited some structures, fully immersing ourselves in their beauty.
On this intense day, we covered a distance of 37 kilometers on foot.
Day 3: Flavors, Shopping, and Farewell to Rome
On the third day, although we initially planned to give the Vatican another try, the accumulated fatigue from the previous days persuaded us to opt for a less demanding alternative. We decided to have lunch at Tonnarello in Trastevere, renowned for its delicious Amatriciana, which certainly lived up to its reputation.
In the afternoon, we dedicated our time to shopping, exploring small shops to find souvenirs for family and friends. Later, we returned to the hotel to collect our luggage and prepare to leave the city. With a touch of nostalgia in our hearts, we bid farewell to Rome and made our way to the train station.
During the final day, we covered 13 kilometers, savoring the last moments in this marvelous city.
My 3-day trip to Rome was truly unforgettable. The city surprised me with its millennia-old history, the art that permeates every corner, and the cuisine that delighted my taste buds. The majestic structures, grandiose churches, and enchanting squares left me speechless. Rome is a treasure trove of wonders, and I will certainly return one day to continue uncovering its beautiful secrets. If you have the opportunity to visit this extraordinary city, I highly recommend it. You won't regret it!
